That's seriously impressive! ;D Yeah, I've got to admit, Lance and Mark are doing a great job, and it's a real pleasure to see them do what I can only describe as coachbuilding on the Amazon. I'll be posting sometime next week about the grille, which is really something -- if you want to keep up to date with developments you can always subscribe to the Amazon's RSS newsfeed: autopendium.com/vehicles/3.rss. so is that a standard grill being lead-filled for strength? the stock grilles seem so flimsy it sounds very interesting. If I ever get the bare 'zon shell that has been offered to me this pic is giving me all sorts of naughty ideas.

If I ever get the bare 'zon shell that has been offered to me this pic is giving me all sorts of naughty ideas. Yeah, they are flimsy. Worse than that, the remanufactured one I got (couldn't get hold of a good used or NOS one) was pressed badly, so needed a fair bit of work to fit well, and then more work to get a straight edge at the bottom. As far as the pic goes, I guess that one of the ideas behind Autopendium. There's a lot of things we've needed to do (and quite a few we didn't need to, but wanted to) that I'm sure would be useful to others restoring or customising their Amazons, and Autopendium provides a central place to do that. Plus, I wanted to be able to keep a detailed record of it. To my twisted logic, the best way seemed to be to design a website to do just that. Hence Autopendium. Feedback so far's been excellent, particularly from those that have added their cars. Still, YMMV (Your Mileage May Vary), as they say in geek circles. Good luck with the shell. Any specific plans for if you do get it?

will be a long term project I think, will probably steal a little metal off it first to repair my girl, then thinking about extending the frotn doors to cover the b pillars, possibly extend over the sill too to minimise the number of lines on the car, I'm liking the 1 piece bumper and looking foward to seeing what the rimless headlights look like, possibly clean up the indicators, maybe somethign like the blades on a VW type3, independant rear end (I'm sick of a live rear axle over speed humps) modernised brakes a 5spd man and the most modern and efficient engine I can afford (6 cyl, maybe diesel).
The previous owner of it is just waiting to sort out a car that he has bought near me, and he is going to drop the shell off when picking up his new toy (car is currently about 1200km away)

independant rear end (I'm sick of a live rear axle over speed humps) But as live axles go, the Amazon one is extremely well located

Seems like a while since the last update on the Amazon. It's been at the shapers the past couple of weeks, being prepared for paint, and will probably be there another couple of weeks (it's going to be a very dark colour, so it's quite important the base is as smooth as poss). I've been promised some pics, but not got any yet. In the meantime a couple of tidbits. As ever, full details and more pics are on the Amazon's dedicated page on Autopendium :: Stuff about old cars. First, the engine has now been rebuilt (though I'm still searching for a set of rocker arms -- please message me if you know where I can get a set), complete with balanced crank, flywheel, clutch, and pistons -- the pistons were quite different weights -- as much as 8g different). Here's just a taster of what it looks like -- a pic of the head with the Isky double springs from IPD: . We've also got nearly all the small chrome-work back, including the window frames, rear ashtrays and handbrake. . I've also now got hold of a good overdrive gearbox, complete with switch and indicator. Spent part of Tuesday giving it a good degreasing. Now it's just finalising the interior. In the meantime, if there are any other good Amazon restos out there, it'd be great to see you keep a record of them at Autopendium. There's a Ruddspeed just been added, but I'm sure there some other good ones being done out there. Cheers, Chris

Quick note to say that finally the Amazon's getting some paint on it. It was at the shapers for what seemed like an age, and the guys at Paintforce in Ealing (just down the road from Romance of Rust, who've been doing such a great job on the resto) have been prepping it for the past couple of weeks. Here are a couple of pics I took yesterday -- the first in the morning, just before it went into the oven to get painted. The second, in the over itself, about 5 hours later. Even without flattening and polishing, I think the pearl midnight blue looks pretty good. As usual, there are more pics on the Amazon's page on Autopendium. In the meantime, I've also been slowly rebuilding my Camaro's 350 2-bolt that has been sitting in the back of my lockup for something like 12 years. The crank's off being balanced at the moment, then I'll start the buildup after that. I'm taking it quite slowly, as it's the first engine I've rebuilt, but after sitting neglected for so long, a couple more weeks won't matter.

OK. 'Bout time for an update on the old Amazon. It' all back from the painters and the rebuild's going well: . All the pieces are going back nicely together, and the engine bay's looking grea, which some excellent pipework from Romance of Rust's Mark and a new loom (via Brookhouse): Have even treated it to a new 123 ignition system: More pics as usual on the Amazon's page at Autopendium

Can't believe it's over two months since my last update here on the Amazon. Kept meaning to, but been busy with a whole heap of things, from updating Autopendium (lots of new features!), to sorting bits and pieces on the Amazon, to rebuilding the Camaro's engine). Now, however, we're on the home straight as far as the Amazon's concerned, with the rebuild close to being complete. Here are a few highlights: The engine's been fired up for the first time ( more details plus video here) The interior's been started (burgundy leather): And I've found some very sexy K&N filters that look the proverbial dog's (check out the post if you want part numbers): Lots more info, details, video, and loads more pics on the Amazon's page on Autopendium.
