Hi Leigh! Seing as we are now rocco brothers I decided to show my face up on your thread. Looks like a very nice clean example you got on the go there. By the way if you have any luck with the Scirocco register let me know as I have emailed them numerous times and they never got back to me. Maybe I'm not cool enough By the way, check the seal around the tailgate lock, mine as rotted and was letting in water all over the shop, they are pennies from VW.

Thanks idlewillkill, i have that very leak and identified it by placing my da in the boot Houdini style! And thanks too for yours and monzajake's advice re scirocco register....i haven't bothered my hoop doing that yet- my house is already flooded with curse word from the Triumph and viva clubs (although at least the viva stuff is interesting!). If i do get any feedback from them i'll let you know

I've had 2 mk2 scirrocos (and a corrado) and they are top motors and pretty cheap to run (40mpg on a steady run on the M ways) Underneath they are Mk1 golfs so loads of mechanical tuning bits although the exhaust is unique to them due to a longer wheel base (they have the front floorpan from a 3dr and the rear floorpan from a cabrio). If you can, fit a top and bottom strut brace on the front, makes a big difference. Does a strut brace for a Golf Mk1 for the front of the Scirocco then?

yes, i think so. Bottom strut brace helps more though, but both is best.

I went into my local VW spot and the gangster behind the desk told me it'd be 50quid!!! 50quid!!! He didn't even have a mask or a gun......needless to say he was given the old two-finger salute and told to sober up Any suggestions on where to find one at a relatively sane price?

Are you sure the numpty on the parts desk wasn't confusing that for the entire hatchback opening seal? i know that windscreen seals are about £70 from the dealers but i bought a few tailgate lock seals back in 2005 and as mentioned they are just a few pennies. I always find it helps to get the parts guys at vw who cant even spell scirocco let alone know what one looks like to turn the 'parts screen' around so that i can talk them through it. saying that the guys at my local, sg smiths in south london, are quite good. come visit us on scirocco register forum, i am sure somebody will be able to id the part number for you via the 'etka' system a few people have access to.

Thanks gtxtra, i've registered online for the scirocco register forum so i'll get stuck in there soon and see what comes out of it. With the rain at the minute the car is filling up in the bak quite well as you can imagine!

Yeah the guys at my local, Stourbridge VW, are awesome. I went today to try to buy a VW tool need to take off the exhaust manifold to downpipe clamps and one of the mechanics lent me his. Above the call of duty indeed.
Anyway, mine cost £1.72 and the part number is...
V161 827 527
Thats the number on the invoice I have. Hope it helps dude!

Nice one, i'll try that. The VW place at home is very weird, all about the money kinda place. U know those places where no matter what the problem is they'll find the most expensive way to fix it!?!? - "Sorry, u wouldn't have a spare bottle jack so i can fix this flat wheel?" - "Eh, its not just the wheel, Mate. I'd say its your head gasket...........now here's your invoice" - "But, the engine's fine..............eh"

I think I may have secured a weber carb at last, should know tomoro - thanks for that idlewillkill! I seen your desperate search for clear indicators struggles on in the roccoregister forum also!!! I really hope ur perseverence pays off and when it does, let me know where you got them!!! Also today, I had a play around with the stereo in the Rocco and now have a working CD head unit, sub and amp and have just purchased some 10 and 6x9 speakers for front and rear......dunno if the tens will fit in original position but I will soon find out I suppose.....stereo sounds great and not even a chav-type noise outside - even with the sub kicking out Johnny Cash specials!!! I know none of this fixes my leaks or tends to my brakes but get over it - sometimes you need a distraction too!
