Went to look at this earlier as potential for a daily driver....seems to be pretty clean Its a GTII Scirocco going for very easy money so i figure even if its shiiiiite i can bush a gap with it or something. I know nothing about the Scirocco or any VW to be honest so any info would be appreciated. First job is to buy it but obviously the stick and rims are to be considered in any car project....right???

I've always quite fancied a scirocco, either a mk1 or mk2, but the nearest i got was a corrado. They look better value than ever now but I think prices will start to go up in the near future as they start to get billed as a modern value classic ! I agree, hit it with the lowering stick and a nice set of wheels and you're done !! it looks good in red too !! ;D

I've had 2 mk2 scirrocos (and a corrado) and they are top motors and pretty cheap to run (40mpg on a steady run on the M ways)
Underneath they are Mk1 golfs so loads of mechanical tuning bits although the exhaust is unique to them due to a longer wheel base (they have the front floorpan from a 3dr and the rear floorpan from a cabrio).
15's work very well on them as does a 40mm drop. If you can, fit a top and bottom strut brace on the front, makes a big difference.
The scirrocco register is a very helpful club.

Fair play lads and thanks for the tips.......anybody any interesting pictures of modified ones or engine swaps? I suppose if they are the same as MkI Golfs then the usual golf swaps would work?Is that right?

93!?! Must be a late registered one, since the Corrado replaced the Scirroco in 1991.

Thanks for the comments and links lads.I went back round and had another look, bit of a drive (brakes are not exactly inspiring but with new discs/pads/shoes i'm sure they'll be 100%) and i'll be picking it up next friday!!! Happy days!!! Hope to get the bits during the week so i can get it in for an MOT asap Have to say i think the front fog lights look horrific and they'll be the first thing to go. It needs a good service, a cut and polish and a good general cleaning out but seems to be all there......only time will tell i suppose!!!

Does anyone know about brakes for the front? Can i buy brakes for a Mk1 Golf and they'll be a direct bolt on replacement?Sorry for the stupid questions - new to the whole 'VAG' thing!!I'm gonna be ordering the brake bits on monday so not sure what to get - i'm not quite flush enough for a big brake conversion remember! Thanks for that tip with the fogs too redgt2, should help the look of the front dramatically!!

I reckon its all the skirts that make Scirrocos bargain basement stuff. Lose all that crud and it looks so much cleaner. That black one has been around for a few years but for some reason the owner is camera shy - probably too busy fishing...

100% agree. I'd love a late-model injected scirocco (does that exist?) first thing i'd do with it is sack off that plastic bo11ox that VW insisted on drilling holes in the wings for. The early ones look so clean, bloody marvellous.

Buy it and lose all the plastic = WIN! Thank you so much for that Tarka!!! I reckon that's the way to go, i was just thinking of flared arches on my way home from work today!! I'd love it black like the one in the picture with a MkI Golf four headlamp grille and dropped on something like these or these, i wish!!!! (These should be an option on every decent car!!) Yes, JP, I'm in the South but sometimes i'm in the North!! Depending on insurance and tax etc!!!! I actually checked the VRT for this and its 305Euro which is an awful lot cheaper than they charged me for a 1998 Diesel 5door Peugeot 306 i brought down 2 years ago. I'll leave it on the northern reg for the time being, i'm pretty well up on the Law down here so bluff bluff bluff and all that

The early ones look so clean, bloody marvellous. the later ones were fuel injected.... just picked up this one : dirt cheap, and has all the bits; nice alloys, lowered, power steering etc.... plans for this one : ;D it will be broken very soon, as i need the drivetrain for the Mk.I Jetta....

I think you'll struggle to fit a mk1 grill i'm afraid. Bass boys rocco has to be my all time favorite rocco, it just looks right. I tock off the body kit on my 2nd rocco, on the arches its all bolted on the arch lip and glued on but my rear arches where cabbaged when I exposed them
The brakes are the same as a mk1 golf GTi. The parts bin brake upgrade is to fit 256mm discs from a mk2 16v but you need the caliper carriers from an audi 90 (V hard to find). They do make the brakes awsome though (my 1st 1 had these ftted and my 2nd didn't)
Places like rally designs and TSR used to offer something similar
For a late injected rocco your are loking for a scala I as they discontinued the GTX (the original injected rocco)
1 word of advice, fit a inline fuel filter before the carb as teh fuel filler necks rot and send a load of sh*te down and block it all up. Plus if you can afford it, fit a weber replacment carb, much better than the peiberg fitted as standard
