That poor photoshop attempt is bang on - thanks. Brilliant inspiration indeed.
I am rather scared about the Goodwood pic Dan. Who the hell took that? I was afraid of crashing Jag's heritage '7 days, 7 nights' record breaking 1952 XK120, hence the expression. It had original paint and I didn't want to change that.....
Fifth Gear's next series is sure to have more retro stuff ;-)

Sweet Glad to hear there's gunna be more retro!! You have added a breath of fresh air to the rather stuffy 5th gear. Whatever happened to that Jag you were building in Revs. I stopped reading the mag and never found out.
Watching you brick it at Ferrari was hilarious!!

Haven't I seen a Pro Street one a long time ago built on a full chassis? IIRC this later got swapped for a Metro body? Was SBC poweered and I saw it at the Pod in the 80s and it was insane. As in all over the feckin place....
If it were me I'd do it for the pose only, Rover V8, some tuning, Powerglide (Real Steel do an adaptor), maye even go with a Jag IRS although thats not proper Pro Street it might help tame it.
Or it may induce yet more rear wheel steer...
I think you'll need a full chassis whatever. From what I remember of the floor/subrames on them its not going to be any good for a RWD conversion.
This shizzle ain't for cheap.
But would be well the nuts when done, especially if doen as a nice straight subtle car not all stripes and scoops.

FWIW a t16 lup has to go in an ALlegro using the 1750 model as a base. I had built this one in my mind many a time.

I reckon tube chassis is the only way to do it if I go RWD and V8, so we'll see. Needless to say a V8 Agro would be for show boating and not timed quarter mile crunching. I'd RWYB it but would just enjoy line lock and traffic lights most of the time. I am warming to the idea of a transverse FWD Rover Sterling 2.7 V6 really. If someone has pro streeted an Allegro before I'll be gutted! Does anyone have any details or pics of such a machine?
Glad you liked the Fifth Gear shows Querty. Cheers.

I thought they had closed down years ago.

Shouldn't be too bad i've driven a 500-odd horsepower big block pop with a 91" wheelbase and that wasn't scary and certainly goes straight (has run in the 9s).

BL transverse place in Norwood? What like SE London Norwood? The old Mini breakers next to Maltese Joe who breaks the classic Fords? I thought they had closed down years ago. Not Fords - full of BL transaxle stuff Landcrabs, 1100s and other fantastic tatt...... it's in the Practical Classics Rustin Peace section ( last month I think - a little behind here in Belgo ). It's Norwood london and it's because of death duty - land has to go so a clearout. It's at home so not got everything to hand.... sorry. Apologies for slight thread hi-jack - but pic of allegro estate had me thinking of the 'scenic' potato-chop! HA HA

Why thank you kind Bryn. Over the last few days I've fetched it from Somerset and now it's tucked up in a warm Fen barn, awaiting the start of the project. Been thinking though. I want it to be an amazing sleeper and a few people have suggested keeping it FWD and Britishish. What about an MG Maestro turbo conversion? Or a FWD V6 from those Rover 827 Sterlings? I'm open to suggestions. Pictures of the car posted shortly.... Cant you FWD Rover V8 it? Like that V8 Mini. Thats always been my personal 'head project'..... Poo brown Vanden Plas, on the deck with a rover V8 upfront. Laaarvly.

What's the latest home slice? Not tempted to send it to the sex pest for some seaside tinkering..?

Seaside sex pests aren't my scene, unlike you Mr Jones. I'm still umming and arring. Currently measuring the 827 lump and box for fitment. If I can get it on next season's Fifth Gear then I bloody will!
In an ideal world I'd still like a Ford 9-inch and line lok though. Mmmm.

Another thought for a hear transplant - BMW Mini Cooper S? Lots of old mini owners nick 1275ccs out of Allegros for their Mini so perhaps this is the ultimate revenge? :-)

would the bits and bobs for fitting honda/k-series/vauxhall engines in minis work? if so, honda b16 with a bit of DIY turbo action? or have words with Z-cars about mid-mounting a hot T16... how about an allegro vr6? *n

You Vicky Butler Henderson's number Dan? I do have it, but she'd probably kick me in the swingers if I leaked it. I could possibly get you a perfumed and signed photo though ;-) Glad you enjoyed the Robins - mine absolutely flew in the wet. Never knew drifting a Robin would be a possibility.... 77allegro - don't suppose you could help me track down a quartic wheel for my barn dragged bad boy? Found the quartic wheel for my beast on ebay. They do come up quite regularly, but there's usually a bidding war for them .Was lucky to get mine without paying more than the car's worth...
