cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=200112017988After years of gassing about it, I've finally found a 2 door Legro. Same colour as my Grandma's, plus it's a Somerset, 2 old bint owner, 48k car (I'm from Somerset) so it makes me feel patriotic. It's a UK AMC Pacer really, which is why I love the ugly child born out of wedlock thing. The plan is to eventually subtly Pro Street the curse word, if that's possible. Along the lines of Steve Berriman's Rover P4 really, keeping paint original and interior stock - save for enlarged tranny tunnel and tubbed rump. See this: burnhamautos.com/roverp4.htmWhat do you reckon? Rover 3.5 or yank V8? I definitely want to tub it and keep the original wheels, perhaps band the rears. Bryn Musselwhite, if you're reading this, what do you reckon? Been wanting to do this for about 8 years but am not going to start it until the Impala is finished though. At least I finally have the right project base... WANTED! -Quartic steering wheel -Series 1 vertical slatted grille

Rover T-series? Seems a bit sacriligious to make it rear-drive.

Does this mean you are going to hydra-gas it? Geddit?
Sounds mental. Can't wait to see it done.

Nice replies - cheers guys. This has been in mind (and in my wet dreams) for ages. Collecting the car next week and definitely intend to do a faithful pro-street-sleeper type project. Bar tubbing no external changes and interior all stock.
I won't be starting it for a while, but I promise I will do it. I'm actually quite down with Allegros and this Harvest Gold bad boy is the perfect base. Don't worry, I will be fairly sympathetic. I don't want to tube chassis it, simply cut where necessary.
Volvo back axle sounds good. Hoosier Quick times. Original hubcaps for sure, even on the deep dish rears.
Does anyone have any good places for me to start doing my Pro Street homework? I know Andy Frost (Red Victor 1), Jon Webster and a few other people. Just wanted to check out whether the entire inner wings will have to be junked for a V8 and front clip from another car.
Any input massively welcomed guys. This forum rules.

In my experience you are better to fire up the angle grinder and cut out everything - and I mean everything. You'll have to fabricate it from the bottom up anyway. I used Hauser frame rails in the back and fabricated my own 5 link and suspension mounts, etc. but in hindsight it would have been quicker and cheaper to have bought the entire kit from Hauser to begin with. Also, check out: www.john-sleath.com/

Good call V8lee. I chatted to Andy Frost about it and he reckons it's a v short wheelbase for a pro-street anyway. I reckon I might have to have it tubular chassis'd but perhaps could keep the original floors in or disguise all of the cage to make it look stock. Might call up Jon Wesbter and John Sleath in the next few weeks. Am collecting the car this weekend I think....
Surely someone has got a square (quartic) steering wheel for sale? I need one!

Superb project! How long before you fire up the grinder do you reckon? Will keep my peepers peeped for a quartic steering wheel, i'll have an ask around for ya

Not sure when the grinder might be struck up..... I will defo keep you posted first though. Spoke to John Sleath this arvo and am going to get some details off him. It seems most people are telling me any pro street under 100" in wheel base will snake like a slut up the road. That kinda appeals to me, though I don't want to stack it as soon as it's built. Watch this space. Still discussing motors and whether it'll be a realistic sleeper...

what's the wheelbase on the aggro? can you sneak another few inches into it without altering those achingly beautiful proportions? *n

This might be a way . . . I read somewhere that the Alegro was more aerodynamic going backwards, soooo . . . why not combine the better looking rear of the estate with the more aerodynamic rear of a saloon!?! I call it . . . ALEGROOVY! (I know, I probably want putting down)

/\ THAT has got to be done! You are a loon by the way Mr Impala ;D Aren't Pops on something like a 90" wheelbase. Plenty of them been pro-streeted under stock bodywork.

Follow your dreams or you might as well be a vegetable.

Nice artist's impression, but I think I'll stick to stock bodywork as much as poss! I probably am a bit of a weirdo, but it's been a dream for a loooong time. Like I said, I probably won't be starting it before the Impala is finished (which will take up this year at this rate) but that depends on ££ etc.
We'll see....
