I finally got round to clearing most of the tat from around the car enabling me to have a good look round it and take a few pics The old beast has been laid up for a few years now but I'm glad to say that it's still solid underneath, and the bodywork just needs a bit of tidying round the edges I've owned this for about 15 years now, and it was a daily runner for most of that time. Mechanically totally standard 1622/manual, bodily just the paint that wasn't a factory option ;D Now it's time to think ahead and make a start on getting it back on the road. I'm going to attack the underside with an assortment of wire brushes etc and get it all nice and tidy first, then I can do something with the mechanical bits. Engine was very tired so need to do something on that side of things. I was thinking of MGB 1800 as I already have an overdrive box to go with it. It needs to come down a little on the front thats for sure ;D Would also like to fit discs up front as well, but I haven't came across a reasonable solution for that yet. Much the same story with the steering, rack and pinion would be nice, but can it be done relatively easily? I'm also looking for wheel ideas, something in keeping with the basic plan for the car, which is a kind of period modded style along the lines of the Riley Riviera and other Sixties era conversions. Oh yes, don't' worry folks, the bottom half will be getting resprayed another more restrained hue Not sure what colour yet though. Anyway, that's probably enough inane rambling for now, so here's a few pics as she stands at the moment

Looks cool. I'd lower the front. Make sure the car has a bit of a rake (rear higher than front). Remove the bumpers, then fit narrower front tyres, and band a set of steelies out to 6" wide at the rear with tall wide tyres. Fit a side exit exhaust.
Would look like a mini version of an american 60s street racer. Fit some sort of uprated engine. An mildly modded MGB engine would be cool as it'd be the sort of thing somebody modding the car at the time could have fitted.

Are those Mini front indicators? Reckon later clear ones might look pretty smart.

You just put a wide grin on my face with that somewhat unrestrained colour combo.
Love it.....deffo a flashback to 1970 when our neighbours (rich people ) had one, we sooooooo loved it, my dad had a VW Microbus and a customised Mini Pickup with green metalflake paint, alloys and an 8-Track. Yet we coveted the nieghbours car.

Cheers for the comments guys Thanks Matt, Some rake is in the plan for sure, I like the way Seth's Oxford sits, it looks spot on, so something along that level of rake is in order. The wider steelies idea also sounds good, as does the exhaust. MGB engine is along the lines of my thinking as well. dollywobbler...yes indeed they are mini indicators, glass ones as well The clear versions would look better for sure. No sexuality crisis at all for me that's for sure ;D ;D Grizz, glad that it cheered you up I can just imagine that scene from the 70's, sounds like the basis of a Sitcom show. ;D 8-track stereo....retro indeed, remember them well, my Dad had some of the crappiest tapes available at the time, torture. lol

Wosleley Riviera would be cool! MGB wire wheel back axle and some bolt on splin adaptors on the front I'm in the process of working out front disc brakes for my Oxford and will be documenting it fully as while it has been done numerous times in the past no-one ever seems to have written up whats actually needed. I'm using MGB kingpins, discs and calipers to keep it all "in house" since they are readily available and spare parts will always be around. There is some machining work required which I will be doing myself. I'll be writing it all down so others can get it done too. Saab enthusiasm has taken over for the minute but once I get that out of my system in a couple of weeks (ie. makeover complete ) I'll be back on the Oxford. Oh and I think you need to "clearance" the trans tunnel for the O/D box.

Cheers Seth The Riviera/Silhouette Riley conversions have been nagging at the back of my mind for years now. Wire wheels would be ideal, painted ones preferably, chrome might be too much? I agree about the lack of written documentation with regards to the disc brake conversions. I've heard about and read various snippets over the years, but nothing definitive so far. MGB parts would seem to be the best way to go for sure. The prices for the B parts are the most reasonable, and as you say, should be around for a long time yet. I gave myself a bit of a fright looking at A/H 3000 parts recently, not really an option these days by the look of it. I will certainly be interested in seeing how you get on with yours. If I can help in any way at all just let me know. The transmission tunnel 'clearancing' sounds interesting. Looking forward to seeing the SAAB makeover ;D Sav

Cheers Alistair I always liked them ever since I can remember, not even sure why really. Bought my first one (another 16/60) in 1990, but sadly I had bit off a lot more than I could chew at the time. It was very rotten Nevertheless I used it as an opportunity to learn about them and stripped it completely for future parts. It came in handy a few years later
