I think bumpers and valance look much better than without How about slicing the valance along as per my red line, pulling the back edge to line up with teh wing and filling it with a wedge of steel? That way the bumper won't need pulling round. You took the words out of my mouth! looks like they misjudged the amount of spring in the metal when making the dies for the wings - is there no way to pull it out to get it any closer?

Good work there. Would you mind telling us what brand of panels you are using? Seems like there are lots of issues with them and I'd like to know for future reference. Don't buy any panels made in Sri Lanka, but do buy anything from JLH. Those S L panels seem to be made by blind people who have only had them described to them over the phone (4 inches too short on a pick-up floor pan - I could continue) and from truly dreadful steel

Oh, and do keep the bumper and valance. The one that you have on it now is a saloon one, btw - LCVs had a shorter, unchromed bumper blade

how much are the JHL lower front wing extensions? I think I might need some for my project, look alot easier then tryign to shape the metal myself!

I think the wing extensions were £30 IIRC. Yep, I've decided I'm keeping the bumper IMHO a van just wouldn't look right with no bumper. I know the bumpers a car one, not an LCV, its one I had hanging around to try for fit. As I'm going for black and chrome look though I will be using a car one. Seth, the cutting the valance is the route I'm going to go, as i don't fancy cutting the wings. Besides welding nice flat heavy guage '60's metal is preferable to trying to alter the curves on the wings. the only problem comes if I ever have to change the wing in the future Biginger, the wings came from a well known supplier and advertised as UK made

I had the same wing fit issues with my Minor, when new (pattern) ones were fitted. Maybe the Heritage ones (presumably off the original tooling?) are worth the extra money?

I've been told that the heritage wings, although a thicker guage, fit no better .

I've been told that the heritage wings, although a thicker guage, fit no better . Sad but true, I'm afraid - hence the endless moaning about parts on the MMOC site. I've given up on them where I can and spend a LOT of time renovating/repairing old items - roughly the same amount of time spent as making new ones fit

I can't believe I've only just found this thread. Excellent work Dean, a real inspiration.
Oh, and another vote for bumpers here, though again, I have no idea how to achieve it!

Thanks to some info from the MMOC site, I've discovered if you release the wings from the front panel, they then match the front valance perfectly. You then weld a thin strip to the edge of the wing and redrill the holes to bolt the wing to the front panel. So, get a new liner in the welder and then i can progress ;D

If they're LMC panels they should be UK made. Thos sri lankan jobbies are curse word, usually made up of lots of shaped bits welded together!

That was one of the best bits of advice I've ever read on a forum From Ian (sp) of Fairmile restoraions, btw

Yes it was, I've already had bits of Iain in the past. They were in his van when he had the accident

Looks like it could be - are the first letters on the plate BPA? If it is my old van, then it's had quite a few changes as well as some much needed restoration work & repaint back to it's original Rose Taupe (was light blue when I bought it & multicoloured when I sold it due to an aborted attempt at a colour change). Not sure why it now has the (incorrect) early wings & useless narrow mirrors though - had two new wings and the wider van mirrors when I sold it! Sad to see it smashed up but glad to hear that it will be rebuilt! Ian is only the fourth owner & the owner before me is a friend of the family & she still misses it.

Yes it is yours then, numbers match. It had a head on with a Corsa I believe. I'll remove the picture now as I haven't asked permission to post it, although it is in the public domain.
