got the gearbox bracket done, at last! my engine and box are now both mounted firmly and arent going anywhere! the seam sealer covers my rather poor welding, and hides my dads perfect welding ;D ;D once that was out the way, i could get the interior back in, well, at 3.30 i knew i had about an hour of light, so i made a start.......... first i did was put down a layer of soundproofing/heat matting. dad being a heating maintenence engineer he come across some 2" thick heatproof matting. I'm assuming its probably better than fords attempt 30 years ago so started cutting a template........ you can see how thick it is in the bottom left corner. it should be able to survive a nuclear winter, let alone the extremities of east birmingham ;D ;D

winters making it an issue to carry on at the moment, ive been doing a few bits and bobs in house, mainly designing a carPC - a tad geeky I know, but so far its cost me £50 and only need a few more bits and bobs (GPS receiver and a trackball mouse) so is waaaay cheaper than a half decent hed unit and includes all the gadgets and gismo's. www.mp3car.com/vbulletin/show-off-your-project/112615-winter-install-1979-mk2-escort-zetec.htmlgoing to take the engine out once again (i should have put it on wingnuts ;D ;D ) to tack weld the other side of my new brackets in place and paint, then I can get the itnerior finished....... plan to get the bitumen redone on the floor too, any ideas? i think the 'done' way, is to use a bitumen pot like the roofers do........sounds a bit traveller but i think its the only way? I'm open to suggestions ;D

I think you can buy strips of bitumen the way they are originally instead of just a paste. Brilliant project, get it did!

looking good! love the in car computer idea; will be cool!
we have a roll of lead substitute flashing that might be good for your floors; its a bitumen type stuff, about 3mm thick, with foil on the back. might have to double up but would work well i think. will dig it out and let you know the manufacturer

There must be a few people on here considering CarPC's now. I'm considering putting one in the shovit... mainly because the middle of the dash is begging to be filled with a touchscreen ;D Long way off though Great progress aswel, that sound proofing's gonna make it feel like a modern

Comput0r install sounds fun. It should be a great car, fast handler, but you stil get comfort, ya tootsies warm and a PC to goof about on in jams! wicked.

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

ive just bought the screen for the CPC, taking the engine out tomoro to paint under the gearbox tunnel, found a place to buy the bitumen strips from too (autopaint international)
the interior will be done pretty soon, aiming to build a complete custom centre console with some of the stuff at work we use.......in theory i can get anything i like flocked for a grand total of zero, but i don't think it will 'go' with the rest of the look of the interior.......so might just paint it black texture, and therefore quite OE
jack, ill be out all weekend, feel free to pop up

not a major update, ive been messing with getting the carPC running, the screen i bought was missing the remote, and only has an RGB input (schoolboy error!) so ill be sending it back and getting a VGA screen. oh well. the system - runs off a simple transformer, so the idea is to buy a universal laptop car charger thats 19v and 3.5a, then solder it directly to the board. uber cheapness! the graphical front end - ill be skinning it to make it look a bit more OEM and retro, so far the satnav works, and obviously the music, ill be getting a slot load USB DVD (£25) player to mount in the dash, and a USB radio ($20) so itll be like an extended head unit. so far its cost me the grand total of £25, and should cost me no more than £100 when ive got everything - much cheaper than a headunit! and its a bit out of the league of my nerdness but i intend to get the Dunnell ECU to give me all the readings of the sensors through centrafuse.......but we will see
