What an absolutely glorious day it has been today. And what better way to spend it than rounding up my latest bit of wreckage.
Now I bought this car on the strength of this rather crummy pic.
The feller had it on Ebay with no pic, no information, quid start and no reserve. WHen I saw it (about 6 hours after he put it on) I emailed him to ask him what the crack was. He said he'd already had someone (no doubt a traveller scrap dealer) offer him £50 with 24-hr pick up and he had accepted. I told him he was a fool as he would amost certainly get more than that if he let the auction run. Plus it would be worth more than that in metal if he scrapped it himself. I left my number in case it fell thorugh. Next day the guy rings up wanting to know what I was gonna do with it. I told him if it was not a wreck i would probably get it back on the road. Then he starts going on about what good nick it is in and what a nice car it is, and how he would like to see it going to a good home. He sent me a few more terrible pics of the wheelarches and I decided to offer him 75 quid outside of eBay. He accepted, cancelled the scrap man and pulled the ad. RESULT. So today I went to pick it up from Preston.
One-nine rubber duck i think we got ourselves a convoy! The audi towed it back a treat, great car for towing. Here we've got Lenny from John Steinbecks 'Of Mice and Men' checking it out, he lives in our street.
Safely installed chez bo11ox. The bodywork is good; not amazing, and interstingly it does not have the same wheels as the car in the first grainy photo. Not sure why this is.
Being the EX16 it has the 1.6 twink from a CRX. it sounds great but has a bizarre fault which causes the engine to cycle between 800 and 2500rpm when ticking over. the cycle is regular as clockwork, not sure what thats all about. The ECU is under the seat, I know some of these injected hondas have a self-diagnostic thing, I need to investigate that.
The bodywork is externally quite nice though it needs a polish-up. The only grot I can find are a couple of ugly repairs where the sills join the rear arches.
The interior is lovely. It has done 107k but the interior does not show it, its quite mint.
Great news for Hirst - the HIGH POWER SYSTEM is intact, and sounds amazingly good for a 20-yr old OEM system.
the flight deck:
Heres those wheels. I like them but they look totally wrong for the car. It should have some krazy 80's angular-looking wheels IMO. If anyone has any suggestions lets hear em.
'Dealer' plates. This place must have been where people went before those massive 'car supermarkets' were invented.
Nice high level rear brake light, particularly curse word accessory.
This is classy too:
No carbs here! Luckily it only says that on one side!
Anyway there it is, I reckon a proper polish up would work wonders, this tickover problem needs sorting, some different wheels and a back box and we should be laughing. I think I will persevere with this one rather than just bunging it back on the bay like my last Honda effort.
