hey all,
picked up my amazon on saturday, super chuffed with it at the moment.
its a '62 model, left hand drive. with a b18 and 12v electrics!
sorry for the ebay pictures. i have some off my phone but the cable is in my car and its cold outside!
i've already had it up on a ramp at my mates garage and the only rust that could be found was a mudguard and the boot seal strips!
interior looks like a bomb has exploded in it, (apparently blowing the steering wheel to the wrong side too!!) so i have alot of work in that area.
My main problems at the moment are starting the engine (ive seen it running, but ime just struggling to start it at the moment.....ime thinking the lack of a decent battery so far!) and the brakes. which just need the hose's replacing. but whilst ime at it ime going to try and find some disc brakes for the front!
so far i have:
-cleaned it up inside.
-sat in the back seats remarking to everyone that its so unbelievably comfy and how american the car looks from the inside!
-overiders off from the front and back! they were rusted badly and to be honest i hate the look!
-stripped the black paint off the front bumper, why paint it black???
-made the usual brum brum noises, but fantasised more about driving at 20mph everywhere! not at speed. which is good, as i bought this car so i wont kill myself by driving fast!
-steadfastly refused to clean the outside, much to everyones worry (except my mate who owns a ratlook beetle... who ime quite proud to say quoted my buy as "the ballsiest idea for a ratlook i've ever seen" which cheered me up no end!)
list at the moment stands at:
-wipers
-start engine.
-new ignition barrel
-brakes
-new wheels/tyres (perished cross-plies atm!)
-sort out the interior!
plans for the future aside from the MOT are:
- Drop it VERY low!
- Lovely understated but stylish rims/possible white walls.
- inertia reels front and back....steering wheel looks rather face-smashing-in-arific!
- and absolutely nothing else bar the essentials!
i plan to have a lovely ratlook/retro cruiser thing going on! it's suitably aged with a lovely patina....so why not!
-OH and alu plates....plastic sucks!
let me know what you all think!
