Oh dear. What have I done! I do seem to love the sort of cars that cause people to laugh at you. And not in a friendly way! Pick it up Thursday. My mate has suggested painting it bright Pink. Couldn't make it look any worse I s'pose... The sad thing is that I've always liked these. It's a 1978 making it the first car I've owned that is the same age as me!

It looks like the designer of the grille and lights didn't know anything about the look of the rest of the nose, but still.... cool!

Sadly, I do have a beige cardigan and some brown cords so I can colour co-ordinate with the car... You will also need; 1. A pipe 2. A trilby 3. A Val Doonican cassette 4. Mrs. Dollywobbler sat in the back wearing a hairnet 5. A tartan travel rug 6. The ability to drive everywhere at 26.43mph I like it, to be honest........ ;D

Er, I'm sitting on a tartan travel rug at the moment... (gets chilly in our cottage!)
The true story of the grille is that due to BL cost constraints, the Vanden Plas could have only one panel change compared to the vastly different front of the earlier VP Princess (the one based on the Austin 1100). The grille is apparently inspired by a Daimler!

The resemblance is certainly there, it just looks a bit out of place, almost like the 2CV's or Beetles with Merc or Rolls grilles.

Curiosity I guess. Are they really that bad? I'll find out soon!
No MOT on it yet so some work to do (bit of welding, hopefully not much else!)

Oh no, another one! I saw this sad one the other day, and then I've just noticed there's one hiding in a picture of a scrapyard from about 10 years ago that's sitting in front of me awaiting scanning. I'd certainly agree about the tartan rug, my new Accord has one in the boot which the previous 77yr old owner left behind. I don't really do stickers, but I'm quite happy to see these in the Accord's back window..... (The PROBUS thing is very odd, here's their website

Well done mate. More and more of these seem to be crawling (literally) out of the woodwork. Almost makes you proud to be British. Or maybe not.

Poo brown is the way to go.... ;D I get the same reaction about my Bronz mettalic, if I say its at the painter, they always ask me what colour and if I tell them well the original, its like:" hmm yes the brownish goldish colour "

They didnt make a Vanden Plas estate version of the allegro. I do confess to owning a Allegro 3 1.5L myself once, and to be honest it was bloody awful to drive with the excpetion of being quite nippy with its twin carbs and 5 speed box.

Awesome! love it, It needs to be brown, (newly predictable) banded steelies with horrid metal hub caps put back on a depressed hydrofantastic system (soz slater for nicking the mettys formula) and it will be minty, add power for extra fun! love these, my dad was commissioned to paint one black for a mate in the 80's so i got to play around in it. it was an upgrade on a saab 900 turbo which was cooler IMO but never mind! I always had stereet machine style plans to do one or a Maxi in 90's timy mallet pink, however i'm not sure if doing that is a bit trying too hard ironic! not sure it would stop me like! ;D see how nice that sexy brown is....

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts
