hi all this is my new project, the plan so far is to use a 820 turbo vitesse engine, the block is basically the same as a 2.0 ital so it should be quite simple. Ive also got a lt77 5speed box from a sherpa and at the moment plan to couple it to a mgb back axle. Ive just picked up a ital 2.0 auto for the mounts and other bits I need so I can get cracking now

cool, another eedjit ! that's MY next project or it WAS until i saw how much 820 engines are going for... would you not be tempted by a nice reliable J lump in there? a 200sx turbo motor for example... thats what i fancy. i could use and blow up 4 in the time that i could save for an 820 lump ;D

I would thhink the 820 motor would probably be a bit more durable than the average Nissan CA18. Don't get me wrong, they are great engines, it's just most of them have been badly neglected and once slapped in a retro, intercooled and the boosted, they seem to go bang fairly quickly. If you want a hardcore Nissan motor it's got to be an SR20DET but then you're talking about speding a lot of money to get one. I'd go with the 820 plan myself.
One thought though... I've seen the MGB axle swap mentioned before but how's this for an alternative. If you can source one, a Datsun or Nissan back axle from anything Bluebird sized or larger (and some vans). They have the same stud pattern as an MGB but decent brakes and a virtually unbreakable H190 diff. Lot's of choices of ratio too and as so many Nissans had them, chances are they may even be one with the correct spring platform spacing.

bit aggressive Mr_B ? there's been a few on t'bay recently that have gone for silly money that i've been watching... and a few Nissan engines gone for peanuts. i don't make this stuff up. (i cant view ebay links from work) the rover ones that have been on (that were worth having) may have been salvage agents prices tho compared razzed private sales of the Nissan.

hi marina rob the pickup looks cool in black. Ive found its cheaper to get a whole 820 instead of the lump, loom, ecu, ect mine came from ebay cheap with a f**ked gearbox and no keys have got the v5 though! Ive just payed more for a ital to donate its mounts and some other small bits. try to avoid the earlier t series lump because the dizzy fouls the bulkhead, later ones have coil pack ignition, i think 96 is the change over year

I`ve heard that too but it cant be right, can it? If it is then theres a good case for converting a Marina into an Ital - wouldnt be difficult...

it was a shame to break it up there are very few left but this one was very and i mean very rotten and it had been vandalised and had bits missing before i got it. still a shame though at least its going to help various others stay on the road
