Yup, that's knackered! Vicsmith; turning an Ital into a Marina is MAJOR work, but the other way isn't as bad.....strangely!
I'll soon be starting to assess the TR7 engine and gearbox I bought for £6.50 off the 'bay and it was me that put the MGB axle into a Marina....not a tricky job (I did it single handed....)

(the guy i bought it off said it was MGB V8 but everything else he said was absolute boll_ks so i have no idea what my axle is off TBH... ) that didnt help did it ? ;D ;D ;D

The Rear Axle on the MGB was not changed for V8, least these axles are plentyful.
From my understanding the MGB V8 nver came with a LSD this was always a Aftermarket component.

I'm wrong its the mgr that has a 3.31 ratio and limited slip The mgb v8 has a diffrent final drive gearing to a normal mgb the 1.8 has 3.9/1 the v8 has 3.07:1 or 3.31, which is really handy as the 3.9/1 is slightly lower than the original 1.8 marina one and twice as strong, top end shouldnt be a prob as I'm using a 5 speed lt77 box?

excellent project. One thats on my list of "wouldn't it be a good idea to, why has nobody done it yet" I have many "mind projects" involving BL cars and the 820 turbo motor... Well, basically any BL car - Allegro, Maxi, Marina, Ital, Princess...

I'm a fan of old ford tin also just the prices for stuff is far to much IMO. i grew up with bl/ford cars and the bl stuff is affordable and i think the t series is a very under rated engine, loads of "mind projects" also, i would like to get a mondeo and remove all of the electrical c**p and put a cvh head with 40's cam ect on the 1.8 zetec bottom end, not realty retro i know but I'm beginning to hate ecu's ect after trying to sort the loom out for the coupe. also stripped the lt77 down to inspect clean paint ect and internally its not looking good at the mo

Wow thats going to be a beast, big fan of the T16 turbo engine, kinda why I have the Rover 600ti which is a major Q car! don't know much about the marina but I had a look at a 1.7 princess or Ital dunno some old BL car with the 1.7 o-series anyway. As it uses the O-series I would guess its the same job as the popular T16turbo conversion for Maestro and Montego's which also have o-series but 2.0L's. Theres loads of info on www.triple-m.co.uk forum, you have to sign up to view. PS do you work at the scrapyard, shame that red Metro GT tailgate isn't white as I'm after one!

hi metromartin, hopefully it will be a beast ;D the ital/princess also had 2.0 o series, the o series block is externally the same as the t series, i hoping to raid the bl/rover parts bin for all the bits for the project, ive got the gt metro interior for the coupe. yep thats my day job at the scrap yard. i can probably get the tailgate painted for ya. thanks for the link promptly joined update on coupe, the lt77 box ive got is pretty much useless, shopped around for a rebuild kit and there all around £80 not including the sincro bits i need so if anybodies got a sherpa/sd1 box for sale please pm me. also started stripping out the 1.3 engine and box ect ill post some pics soon

nice project, the coupe was always a nice shape. used to know a few boys here in newcastle that were mad about marinas a few years ago, they always got a bit excited whenever the words 'mumford' and 'convertible' were mentioned in the same sentence ... ;D

hey ho, its about time I up dated on the turbo project. its been a bit of a challenging start really the box I bought turned out to be knacked. and Ive been stripping the shell down in preparation and the deeper Ive gone the worse it's looked 1st the sills looked solid but had been replaced and stone chipped up after stripping said stone chip off it turns out thieve been put over the originals and both are rotting through and there was extra sound deading in the sides of the boot after removing this its had a section of rear quarter put in from another car and a wodge of filler on the outside I have just bought another 72 coupe though which my first thought was to use this new one for the turbo then Ive found its got a lot of history and its quite nice, but on the other hand its got some lovely patina and would make a excellent sleeper, what should I do? I'm flogging a dead horse with the original shell and by the time Ive put 200 od bhp through her it would probably burst. heres the pics of the new one there old pics though from previous owner, the engine build up so far is the t series lump with o series mounts to the chassis rails, chassis rail holes drilled slightly higher so the turbo clears n/s chassis, o series backing/adapter plate with hole machined for crank sensor, o series starter, marina bell housing t series flywheel and ford type 9 box Ive still got to sort out a clutch and get bell housing machined to fit the t9 but its getting there I will sort out some pics asap

Was the new car owned by the Queen previously? Did you buy it using someone else's money? Is there a reason that 'proper' Marina restorers/enthusiasts couldn't buy it with their money?
No? Looks like it's your car and you can do what you like with it then!

That said, if you were to flog it, how much would you want? Looks lovely!
Sorry you've had trouble with the original plan - a cracking idea!
