Recently purchased!Saved from the scrap pile! this poor old thing was bieng broken for spares but after chatting with the owner I relized that he was a true enthusiast and was more than happy to sell to me, even though the parts would have definately netted him more cash than I gave him for the car. He was just interested in someone saving her. Legend Bodywork is fairly good:Currently all in primer. Arches are solid and look origional, only a very small scab, only surface. Drivers door has seen a bit of filler though, so I might try and source a new one or reconstruct the corner with steel. She came pre-struck with the stick!Uprated springs, not sure on the shocks, will have to investigate. Rear end is pretty low, front could come down a coil Interior status: MINTYAll electrics work, seats have no wear, carpet almost un-marked, overall a really nice place to be Engine bay is bufty!New plugs, oil, filter, leads, power steering pump. Seriously clean and very healthy. Only 80k on the clock too Never driven one of these before yesterday, and ive got to say I love it! Really pulls strong in every gear, especially low down. Nice exhaust note, and handles really well thanks to the uprated suspension ;D So, time to modify it!With it bieng in white primer, its just a blank canvas really! But what colour? Beige and white have been discussed, nato green is an option but not sure on that. Matt black i'm not really feeling, don't think its the right car for it. What do you guys think?

I love this, looks sweet as a nut that low but as you say defo needs to come down at the front a bit! Leave the boot spoiler off, those rims on & spray it pensioner beige ftw!

wide steels, no bodykit, beige, supercharger.
that car is fantastic, can't believe it was going to be broken! the interior and engine especially are, as you say, 'bufty'.

Cheers all ;D Yeah the previous owner was very reluctant to break it, but had loads of trouble selling it so felt he had no choice. Some good suggestions for the theme of the mods, will have to chew it over as I really cant decide..... Anyway. Spoiler. Origionally it had this spoiler on: Not sure what it was, GSi? Aftermarket? Either way its gone now, previous owner had sold it before I got to it. It came with a spoiler, but i'm not sure what it is.... it needs repairing if i'm going to fit it, but i'm warming to the idea of no spoiler ;D So then, if we're having no spoiler, removing the reflector panel too.....: ....How d'ya like them apples Obviously put the numberplate on and get rid of the crapola that held the reflector on, but might smooth out the lines a bit, and look more povo ;D That, and some early ribbed rear lights Taking away its MG identity a bit mind........

Excellent car. Glad to see you finally got it.
Are those a standard seat. I have never seen those in a maestrotego before.
Love the engine noise from those they sound totally different to other cars.

Looking damn good Street! The best thing is the lack of rust, thats your worst enemy with these, they rot everywhere. Try the Maestro and Montego owners club for spares and stuff ( i'm thinking the rear window seals if you don't have them) at www.maestro.org.uk/. They have a good forum, theres a fella on there in Lincoln who has 3 Montego's (2 Turbo's). And if you're going to lower the front, have a look how low the sump is first, its mighty low. I whacked the sump of my Maestro on things a couple of times, and that hadnt been lowered. 7567/10 for the purchase tho!!

Cheers mike ;D Funnily enough the fella I bought it off mentioned a guy from a specialist forum who lives in Lincoln, must be the same guy! I'll have a look on there and try and learn my way around them Will check the sump out cheers, if it cant go any lower without getting into trouble them i'll leave it as-is.... this is supposed to be my sensible car so cant get carried away! ;D

I did my apprenticeship as a mechanic in a Rover dealer from 1988 to 1994, and I used to see no end of these. Where have they all gone? Frankly,as a new car they were curse word..but now as a retro ride they rock! The grunty low down torque of the O series engine is very addictive..as is the sudden WHOOSH of acceleration on the turbo models..especially the early ones[turbo lag and torquesteer at it's best!] ;D

Fantastic work, for the cause. Stick to the original MG theme i recon with some period tweaks and mods. not sure what exactly but you probably will. Congrats...

it doesn't matter if it's a Morris Marina or a Toyota Celica - it's what you do with it that counts

That looks pretty good, and fairly rust free, which is always good with an MG/BL car.
Could get the original small Spoiler on it for a period Mod. I like the sound of the boot idea by smoothing it etc.

Too right, where have they all gone? Keep it subtle, it looks good without the rear reflector and improves the 'sleeper' look a little. Pale yellow?

Cheers for the link, looks a tidy one, I prefer the slightly later ones with the that grill and slightly newer dash. Thats a mega find with the spoiler! Whats with the white window frames?

I am now ur new best friend Street. this is un negotiable.
I was gonna say keep it subtle but since my recently found love for j tin style crazy mods I think u should paint it silver with green metal flake panles. it sounds awful butu will be loved forever
its now up to u to make this monty a thing of dreams and change all those peoples views who don't like em. i hope ur up to the task, as it will be a rought trail to blaze

desperately trying to think of some superb way of modding this but cannot. povo it out a bit but its perfect in white. a respray in nato or black or faded red or anything will ruin it, and beige will destroy its mg-ness. dark colours = evil too. so white it is. with those alloys, but polished. but povo out as much as you can for the ultimate 'just been polished rat look' style. its the next big thingy!

agree with keep it white! Drop it some more, spacer those rims out so they are as far in the arch as possible. Polish em up to mirror finish, tidy the exterior and it will be all good

Hey you crazy cats, digging up this thread made me spontaniously slam down my cuppa, march down to the garage, roll my sleeves up and stand in front of it with my arms folded for about 10 mins, which is definately progress! Quite fired up to do something with this now, I kinda lost enthusiasm for it for a while so its just been sulking in the garage but now i'm ready to get cracking, so cheers! metromartin- yeah she's pretty clean, no rust apart from a little surface on the rear pillar which i've now treated, and all the mechanicals are either new or reconditioned so its an excellent base for a project! Is that spoiler rare? I know nothing about these cars really! trg- hey bestest buddy, your thinking along the same lines as me with regards to the J-stylz ;D This pic that you posted..... .....Is the kind of thing i'd like to go for I think, but decent dished wheels are going to be a mare to find for this turkey with its 95.6mm pcd Want to make this a real head twizzler, purely because of the Mongtego's image its a prime candidate. Funds and time will be the biggest hurdle... i'll give it a good go though! ;D Suprisingskoda- Yeah I really didn't know where to go with this one either- matt black would have been easiest/cheapest but it just wouldn't look right IMO, same with all the other colours you mentioned except the white really Considering polishing the lips on the current alloys if I cant find owt more suitable. ColenelK- Yep thats a good recipe, cant go too wrong with that! Will update when i've done something other than sit behind the wheel making engine noises If anyones got any ideas regarding wheels i'd like to hear the suggestions- MGF wheels are too modern for the look i'm going for, current wheels aren't bad I suppose with a bit of polishing or something, wide steels are the dream but unlikely to find anything.... what to do! what to do!
