If you need any Montego advice, don't hesitate to ask, we got 4 MG Montego turbo's at home in all states of repair. plus a maestro!
If you didn't know, the MGF alloys bolt straight on which is what most do, if you get MG TF 17" alloys the big rwed AP 4 pot calipers do too.
Keeping it in the garage has been a good move, they love to rust, keep the rear archs clear of mud and behind the filler neck and it shouldn't rust.

UPDATE #1- RESCUE MISSION!First of all I had to find the keys! Lost them for about a year but here they are (a bit rust now!) Thats quite funny you mention old keys, My Metro one has gone a bit rusty too as I left it outside as its had loads of use so I got a brand new Rover blank of ebay today! They are still availible new to from Xpart too. Plus getting a spare cut can be a god send in future if you lose them. I had my keys stolen last summer but not the car so found out the hard way there. If you do get a new blank theres 2 types, just make sure the silver bit Zig zags the same way as your keey as the later r200 etc the key is mirrored. I put a picture up showing the part number if anyones intrested

Thanks Al, very good of you to offer to take it back but it was my own fault, I should have specified which management it had when I baught it off you! I would be interested in the MEMS loom if you can get one though, but I don't expect you to have to buy the old one back because of my mistake Metromartin- Thanks for the info, I may well get another key cut to save any future hastle! It was a right sod to get it to turn in the ignition barrel, had to clean it all up. Yeah i've seen the MGF wheels, some of them are quite nice, I think in reality i'm going to have to clean up the origionals and run it like that for a while though (which isn't so bad as I quite like them!) Tim- Don't worry the twin engine project isn't slowing down (well, not because of the Monty but the weather isn't helping!) but i desperately need a car, not least to go collecting parts with! Cheers everyone for ya motivation!

Nice work Salvation! That's pretty close to what i'd like to do with it, read my mind! If the right wheels come up at the right time i'd go for it, although it's difficult to get them that low due to the bungalow sized sump (not impossible though!) I've heard Formula Ford wheels are often in this PCD, and that's a good source of deep dished wheels! Just got to find some at the right price though Oh, and get the curse word running!

Street - hope you've got a loom sorted - does it come in any particular models or is it a bit of look n see? These things are great cars. Will be good to see it getting back on the road. As if the twin engine project wasn't enough on your plate looking forward to the 'street treatment'

Thanks Gtsaviour! I'm not too sure which models had this management, it seems to be the less popular one though which may make finding a replacement a bit more tricky Yeah i've definately got enough on my plate with the twin engine project! But I desperately need a daily and i'm really hoping to get this one running, so I don't mind sparing the odd day or two here and there. We'll see!

No worries Al! ;D I think i've scored a loom now so it should be all systems go! Round two of the rescue mission should be in a few weeks Also, at the Autojumble today I scored this: Much prefer this grille to my current one, think it's the turbo one isn't it? Brand new anyway and only £3 Just got to get hold of a badge for it now. Also in talks with someone about some very wide wheels for it, but that may or may not come off, we'll see.

I'll be watching this thread, I haven't seen an MG Monty for a long time... I vote to keep it white, super triple shiny blinding polished bling white, and "clean" it - declutter all the side trim and stuff, smooth out the bumpers and that kind of thing. Run it on satin black wheels with polished lips for superTuffHardness ;D

That's the early grille.. not too sure what year they stopped. Change over point is F reg 1988, So you can get away with both grills on a F reg and it look genunie. As you don't have a bonnet badge it won't look out of place. If your being picky montegos with the badge on the grill the rubbing strips are black with red strip. If you can, I think you should repaint the window frames black?
