Yup - my Dad's MGB came with Greenstuff pads at the front, and they weren't great. They did stop the car, but had no initial bite. The replacements (modern manufacture Ferodo IIRC) are much, much better. I imagine that NOS pads with naughty compounds would be better still, and should cause less disc wear. Seth - great work on the Herald. It's always nice when you know that the work is done and you've another year of motoring ahead.

Nice work Seth, it's satisfying when the doors on a Herald line up and shut properly. Do the swage lines still line up now you've driven it? Every single one Herald door I've ever done has changed after driving it. Door still lines up I'm sure it'll move sooner or later though. Them shrinker/stretchers really are the muts nuts. We've got one, not from frost tho, and nearly half the price ! Unfortunately I can't remember the name of the UK supplier. There's only one thing I'd change tho, and that's get a combined unit, cos it's a ball ache swapping the jaws all the time !! Well, the Chinese one that frost also sells comes as two bodies with one set of jaws each so I guess if someone is selling it as one body with both sets of jaws I could see it being a fair bit less. But I opted for the US made Frost one as the guy recommended it and they've been around for years. Worth the extra investment I felt. The shrinker/stretcher looks a great piece of kit, especially if your name isn't TonyBMW who seems to be a metal working god and not need such things lol. I first used one while working in the workshop of someone who is a metalworking god! But certainly in a commercial situation its daft not to use certain tools to help speed up the work. Small panic with the wipers last night when on the way home from the High Wycombe meet. Seemed as though something slipped and suddenly were they only wiping left from the vertical and off the pass side of the screen. Drove most of the way home with out them, peering through the rain. Had a look this morning and the union/nut had loosened itself off the motor unit allowing the whole rack/pipework to be pushed away. Did it back up and all was good again. Phew! MOT is booked for Thursday so we'll see how that goes. I've just dug out last years and it looks like we've done about 8000 trouble free miles since the engine swap. I'd say the experiment has gone pretty well so far

Thanks guys. Within 12 hours of passing the MOT it was tackling the M1/M6 on the way to Manchester for the weekend. Did about 470 miles by the time we got home on Sunday and its doing its regular commute twice this week so it'll be nigh on 900 miles on from the test by tonight. So next year when I wonder where the 8k or more miles have come from... Anyhow, I had a long day in the dungeon yesterday. Left home at half nine ish am and got home gone midnight. First task was to remove the fresh MOT spec arch repairs. Cutting the front section away revealed the rot underneath and some filler I didn't know was there! Tidied that up first. I had bought an outer arch repair in prep for this job and so my first play with the shrinker/stretcher a couple of months ago was to make an inner arch repair to match it. After a bit of tweaking it looked good to go. I knew several areas would need more metal added to it though but it was still a great time saver to have that arch profile done in advance. There was a huge amount of on and off trial fit and clamping going on. When I got close I ran a thick black marker around the outer arch repair to leave me with a nice visible line to cut the original tin back to. And eventually I got here. Welding the butt join was done a tack at a time and I went around fiddling with other bits/doing the inner-outer plug welds etc to give it time to cool before running more short tacks. Id' been working on it for nearly 13 hours by then so it got a brush over with the zinc primer and that's how it'll stay 'til I can finish it off next week.

Thanks. My original plan was to do the arch before the MOT but they way timings worked out it was going to be better to take it and see if it passed first in case there were things I'd missed. But even with the test out of the way I thought I ought to dedicate a bit more time to it or it would end up being left for another year or whatever. I still need to do a bit more on the inner wing, and obviously grind it back etc but I think that's the end of this years welding. Planning to make the roof/windows water tight once the weather warms up and then next winter perhaps I'll spend a day or two on the worst of the boot floor near the diff hump.

Neat fabrication work. When I was a kid, I always loved the look of a scruffy Vitesse sat on wide steelies, just down the road from my parents. At the tender age of about 10 years, I genuinely thought that if I kept on at my parents, they would make an offer on it for me, pop it in their garage and let me have it when I was 17. As if I really had a chance! Eventually it ended up sat looking sorry for itself, then eventually disappeared, probably not for a holiday either.

Nifty bit of welding there Seth. I´m surprised you still get away with a "MOT sharp edges tape repairsection", we wouldn´t have a leg to stand on over here.

Thanks guys. OB, don't question leniencies! Now is it coming to marham? My current feeling is no I'm afraid. I've kinda been talking myself out of it as there are other ways I could spend well over £100 without trying to break the car my wife would need to get to work the next day.
