Hi, Just joined, thought I'd put up a couple of pics of my car. Allthough it is a classic, I'm in to all sorts of both classic and modified motors. I'm a member of my local Hot Rod club where there is a good variety of cars. Any way enjoy the Humber!

Exellent!! Am I right in thinking it's an early one, with that more Hawk style single headlamp front? My next door neighboor has got one in his garage, BTW... not moved for over 10 years to my knowledge...
|
|
... the only injury I sustained was a bumped head when I let the seatbelt of without realizing the car was upside down and that's not really the car's fault.

Cheers guys! Car in the background of first pic is my old Sunbeam Rapier, sold that when I bought the Humber. No, its not restored.......one respray about 15 years ago and a lot of time in storage!!! ;D V8, not you as well!! my mates in the Hot Rod club keep going on about it. Humber did build a few prototypes in the mid-sixties but didn't take it any further, so a small-block Chrysler lump wouldn't be too 'offensive' Yup, the Series 1 and 2 had the single headlights, the later ones had twins, which I'm not so keen on. Mine's a series 2 which means the early look but with 3 litre engine and disc brakes (series 1 had 2.6 and drums). Mine also has PAS and is an auto. Lovely big cruiser, just don't look at the fuel gauge! LOL.

That looks gorgeous!
Surely your Hot Rod mates say more than just V8...I'm thinking the word 'gasser' might feature often in conversation too!
If it were mine I think I'd be tempted with a bit of lowering (OK, a lot! ;D), a set of flipper 'caps and a pair of Appleton spotlights! That said, it's not mine...it's yours and it looks great as it is! ;D

That looks super cool exactly as it is! I'm glad to hear that you are ignoring the calls for a V8 - one this perfect is too good to mod! I quite like the Series 3 though, but it has to be the earlier type, with the same roof as the 1 & 2 - IMHO the square backed roof looks so wrong. The estate versions look great too - like a 4 door Nomad with those wrap-around rear side windows ;D
I'm very jealous!!!
Do you go to the classic cars night (2nd Tues of the month) at the Ace? If so, I look forward to seeing your car there!

That looks great, love the whitewalls. A bit of lowering would look cool, but leave the straight 6 in, they make a good noise through the right pipes

I'm thinking of looking for a Hawk shell the same as this to convert to 2-door and fit a V8 in to.
Instant mini 55 Chevy!!! ;D
The estates are ultra rare, although I do know of a couple about locally, one of my mates in Norwich runs a really ratty one as his everyday car.
My straight six doesn't make any noise, I put it on a rolling road earlier this year and with the car at 80mph we all took off our ear defenders and laughed, the cooling fan was the loudest thing in there!lol
Its nice to hear all the good comments, It seems to be a car that everybody likes, everywhere I go I get stopped by people who tell me how nice it is or who want to buy it! Even at Rod Runs the lads with the turn-ups and quiffs really rate it.

Instant 55 chev.. ? I agree with your hot rod club mates about putting a LA Mopar and torque flite in it,I saw one the rootes cars back in the day, with a 318 i think, went like a Merc 6.3 ,but didn't have the brakes to match hence Chrysler not allowing them to the job. Want to put performance in there??,go for a Lexus V8 ,they can bought dead cheap in Australia where there are specialists buying them in Japan for just your purpose!. The whole engine trans ,computor etc would be less than the weight of your old humber donk ,resulting in better performance and better brakes. The mopar may be alright for those with the cash to flash but they are '80's technology now and performance stuff is too high priced compared with a stock lexus. I know the stock Humber diff will handle any thing but it's pretty low geared and the fuel costs with any V8 would bankrupt you. Here,I n OZ ,the hot set up would be to fit a Ford/borgwarner diff from any model Falcon, they are 2.92 -1 ratio, cheap and as strong as a 9". and the same track as the Hawke/Supersnipe.

Many years ago I changed my driving style to cope with rising fuel prices; I have now reached the stage where I am contemplating keeping my eyes shut in order to lower wind resistance.

Good work.
