here she is. my pride and joy! 136 motor with an ashleys exhaust system. fitting a webber and a K&N shortly too, which should give it even better performance! ;D its lowered, quite a bit i think, i didn't lower it, the previous owner did....it was just a cutting coils out job, not a proper professional set up... its had the bumpers removed ( ;D ) and clear front and side indicators. and resprayed in a very bright red. 13" minilitte rims, wrapped in 185/75 tyres. Mine and a mate's Rapids chillin' Some general pics,

That brings back some very good memories...what a great car! Might I make a couple of suggestion? It needs more: ;D ...and if it were mine, I'd be looking for a non-spotlight grille and a set of lower profile tyres.

and a set of bumpers eh Rob!!! I second the comment about the bumpers. Without the visual longitudinal emphasis provided by the bumpers, the car looks taller and narrower that it would where bumpers fitted. And keep them black - body colour won't work as described above! Otherwise though, it's looking good!

Nice Rapid! One thing I wished I'd done with my Rapid was (apart from lower it...) give it massive negative camber. OK it'd be a curse word to steer (but not as bad as most as it's rear engined) but it'd look well cool. Looking at the engine bay takes me back too! That engine is one of the easiest I've ever worked on... well the whole car was actually! Everything just unbolts. And I miss the parts prices! Never spent over a tenner at the main dealers, although they were phasing out parts for the rear engined Skods back then (we're talking ten years ago now...). How's the parts situation with the dealers nowadays?

They look mighty fine when they're low! I quite like the bumperless look by the way.

thanks for all the comments ;D bumpers are definately not going on! but i might put them on just to show everyone how much better it looks without.... rmad, in the ideal world, the rims would be bigger, and more 5 spoke looking, with lower profile tyres, but this is the real world, and thats out of the question right now.... d'you all like the rear seat covers? future mods: -AA/RR badge -possibily, might re-fit the standard grille... thanks again!

Did you own the Estelle on hydraulics that was sat on a beer bottle at Doncaster custom show a few years back?? No, that was scrapingscrap (member of this forum, but currently on a round the world jaunt). The juice from that car (the Estelle) ended up in this grey Rapid. Scrapingscrap bought the Rapid from me - finished the Twin Cam swap that I had started and fitted the hydraulics. ^ this was the saloon ^

Are they Billabug style door cars?? If the violent rocking from the hydraulics didn't make the passengers chunder, the interior usually did.

Yeah I used to get stick about my Rapid (and that was when Skoda jokes were considered "funny"). I used to wave to them when they were standing in the bus queue in the puring rain... "can I have a lift?" "errr, no."

did you have a rapid as your first car- just how cool! only one of my 'contemparies' has a car, and it's an MG B GT that he is restoring with his dad and he refuses to modify it!

Snorm, you must be the coolest kid in school with that <not that anybody else would understand as they aspire to their BSM blue 1.2 Corsa with free insurance > But, IMHO... have no bumpers and slam it or re-fit the bumpers and leave it at that height... otherwise it looks too top heavy.
