i knew my car was needing work, but i didn't know what work, and i was talking to a fellow Rapid owner in Cambridge on the Friday, and it worked out that basically, he drove up the next day and stayed over night and spent all of Sunday helping me 'analyse' my car. Thats right, 220miles just to see me ;D so in his honour, i got a little meet together for him. Her is the pics... Left > Right Alan's (from York) 130 cabrio, Dave's (from cambridge) Rapid, My Rapid Cars with their owners... Mine and Dave's cars. Alan's Cabrio Took these of Dave's Rapid too. As you can see it is completely standard and rust free - absolutely stunning. Will post pics of what we found in a second...

these are pics of the passenger side sill which is the worst sill on the car. we actually had to cut the sill away, altho some of it, well most of it, was coming away when we hit it with a hammer. Having said that, the inner inner sill is in good shape, so it is saveable. The driver's side was bad, but not as bad. Here we have a view from inside the passenger rear arch, agian the worst side, looking down into the sills, And the front anti roll bar which had rusted free there was more rust. but i didn't take pics of it, i was too busy sweeping the remains of my car up off the street! ;D bit of restoration required. lol.

as for the earlier front, i can be done but it's a lot of work, and the body is most important at the moment, and i also quite like the big square lamps.

I'VE BEEN A SKODA OWNER SINCE I WAS 18[I'M 33 NOW],AND I GOT A LOT OF STICK FOR IT WHEN I WAS YOUNGER. IT REALLY DIDN'T BOTHER ME,IN FACT I'M PROUD OF MY CHOICE. I GAVE MY SO CALLED MATES THE SAME ANSWER AS YOU BENZ BOY WHEN THEY BEGGED ME FOR A LIFT.

It does look bloody lovely, but some gloss black bumpers would really set it off I reckon. And I'd be tempted to add a few more vents in the engine bay lid (is it a bootlid or a bonnet or what, I usually just call it the engine lid, but other rear engined car owners have other ideas! ), but then I'm an Imp owner, so I'm very paranoid about engine bay temperatures! ;D ;D And don't worry that nobody else your age thinks Skodas are cool, I had the same trouble when I was in high school and tinkering about with Imps, but I reckon part of it's down to jealousy, I mean how many people your age have a motor at all? And when they do get one, it'll be some dull clapped out piece of rubbish, like a poor abused Cavalier or Saxo, so who're they to say anything about your motor?

this car has made itself famous by not having bumpers, so they are not going back on!
might keep them on my next Skoda (yes i am planning!) I'm thinking, completely original 120 L5, having been inspired by Dave and his Rapid.
btw- good to see you on this forum Dave!

began the restoration this weekend. Dave = my Skoda crazy mate from Cambridge. Date begun: 21.1.2006Dave drove up on the Friday afternoon in his Vauxhall Zafira and the plan was to have the car dismantled and loaded into the back of his car by Monday. Pretty optomistic really. So started at about 9 on Sat morning and these are the before pics. A quick shot of the rust (the reason for this resto). Before beginning the work we decided to take the car for a very short drive and establish what condition all the mechanicals were in and also to give it final run out in it's current guise. The car seemed to not want to go and Dave said he really had to give it some to get any progress. This could be down to the stale petrol and not running for nearly a year but a full service is called for. As mentioned elsewhere, unfortunately on the return we lost control, veered across the road, hit a big bush thing and spun round finishing with the nose in a ditch and the on the road. After being recovered by a very friendly tractor we assesed the damage. The car was pretty badly damaged but thankfully neither of us were hurt. During the crash the front off side wheel 'locked' in a full lock left position and after inspection we found a broken brake disc and steering rod. Half of the brake disc: The back panel and ashley exhaust. the exhaust is salvagable and just needs bending back into shape but as you can see the rear panel is fit only for scrap: The engine lid: General damage: This is the offside front wing which you can see is very bent and for scrap which is a shame because it was a good condition wing with no rust: This is the a-pilar and you can see the large dent and scratches: This is the c-pilar and again you can see scratches and an impressive dent: The drivers door...you can't see but the door is actually completely bent but to give you an idea as to what the hell happened you see all the grass and mud in the handle. Close up of the damage: Here you can see that the impact on the rear left wing (right hand side from view of the photo) has been pushed over, which in turn has pushed the back panel over and then ripped the other rear wing out... Even Skoda stickers are well made! The stripe down now began. Back seats out: The undamaged bonnet joins the sevrely bent rear panel: Rear suspension: Sun roof and rear window:

Yeah, i forgot to mention that. it's all being rebuilt over the next year into this £50 bargain of a shell. it's much more solid and only needs the sills seeing to!

Who was driving it. When you say we lost control I get the impression one person operating the pedals and another steering. That conjures up some bizarre images I hope you were on private land. At least the car is being scrapped anyway
