I don't want this to be taken the wrong way, and it isn't aimed at anyone in particular, but what's with all the flaming that's been going on recently?
Most of it is pretty light-hearted and stuff, but new posters getting criticized for poor spelling / punctuation / grammar etc., doesn't really create a welcoming atmosphere. Personally I don't really care how the post is set out, if people have something valid or interesting to say then it's worth reading. I think people getting advised to copy and paste into Word to do a spell-check before posting is a right f*ck on, and doesn't encourage people to post.
I didn't put this on the main board because it isn't really relevant, but I just thought I'd mention it.

I make you right there. I've noticed a bit of a change in the atmosphere on here recently. But i guess thats gonna happen with the amount of new people coming on here all the time. I know the incident your talking about and that whole thread got a bit out of hand with threats of violence and other bad stuff. I dunno, sometimes i guess its hard to remember that what you post on here can be taken in a different way by other people, it all depends on the mood someones in when they read it. I've typed out a lot of posts in the past then read through them and decieded not to bother, just because, with a bit of hindsight i can see that it might be taken the wrong way. I guess the rule of thumb should be think twice before you have a pop at someone because not everyone has the same sense of humour as you.

I'm a relative newbie on here,so I guess my opinion doesn't count for much, but I haven't been on another forum that is as fun, varied and friendly as this one. ;D I LOVE IT!

It's bullying plain and simple... and sadly at the moment I'm too busy to read every thread so I can't pick it up. If people could cut it out,.. that would be great.

I've noticed it a bit too - unfortunate really . I guess a good way could be to link to this thread?

Like Rev. Deluxe says, I think a lot of it is just how peoples sense of humour is interpreted, but if I'd just put my first post up and just got a load of p*sstaking back (however it was meant) I'd be inclined to not bother again. This place has grown massively over the past 12 months and a lot of that is down to the friendly open nature of this place (plus an unswerving desire for anything old and unloved).

It has become a lot more noticeable of late. I think the majority of the people doing it are doing it as a joke pure and simple but as has already been said newbies wouldnt be able to appreciate this and will take it the wrong way. Hotwire is it maybe worth considering getting a couple more moderators just to help keep an eye on things. I know that nobody wants the site over moderated but there are a lot of car forums that are nowhere near as busy as this with a lot more moderators

hmm...can see where you are coming from. 10,000 topics, 1,000 members, lots of posts per day and only 3 moderators? i don't like over-moderation, however, i think it could be useful to have a few more. how would they be selected?

how would they be selected? I propose a fiendishly constructed set of tests, each more gruelling than the last, designed to take the prospective moderators mind, body and willpower to its limits. Much like an Ironman contest, the Krypton Factor, or It's A Knockout. That'd sort the men from the boys. Alternatively, someone could volunteer

Much like an Ironman contest, the Krypton Factor, or It's A Knockout. That'd sort the men from the boys. Alternatively, someone could volunteer Sniggering at the thought of a bunch of RRers staggering around in oversize costumes trying to get as much used engine oil as possible into a bucket the far side of a rainy scrapyard over piles of rusty cars 2-3 high while being barked at by the yard's security dogs. Is that what you had in mind? Commentary by Stuart Hall with lots of giggling, obviously.

That soooooo gets my vote......... I can see it all playing out in my mine - the slopped oil covering the bodywork and destroying the ability of others to clamber over
Result 1 additional moderator passes the test.......
Maybe not then!
