Now then. 34 year old garage owning retro nut seeks new car. had most normal retro cars before, the list of previous rides is very long from mini to cossie, from 2.1 mex to moggy.
Now as I'm getting older I'm fed up with chasing tin worm from panel to panel. i don't mind a bit of paint every now and then I just can't be bothered to do it regularly.
So the not to much tinworm rules out a lot of wicked cars.
I can't be bothered with high maintenance cars, your spare time interest should not have you doing the same as you do 9 till 5. So that rules out cossies and the like.
I don't mind retro cars that don't score highly on the performance-ometer, as long as they are bloody good fun to drive.
my current moggy is flat out at a boring 75 but god its good fun sideways. sorry to anyone who doesn't agree with sideways driving, but it is more fun.
so there you go what I'm getting at is give me some suggestions that are not the norm but fit in with what I've said. Maybe one of you guys/gals might suggest something I hadn't thought of.
cheers for now

Until it goes wrong, that is. Might as well file for bankruptcy if that happens!! At that price I'd be looking at a perhaps not mint M3, but I'd probably opt for an immaculate M535i. Vastly underrated & an absolute hoot! Aye cos they're cheap as chips to fix when they bust!!! ;D

now then. as for a8. yes the poodles plums, i agree, but would you want to own it when it goes wrong? i know they don't very often, but what if it did.
as for bm's. i've had a wicked 325 e30 hartge. (is that how you correctly spell hartage?) it went like stink, i have to admit that i sold it because my dring style was becoming worse, ie sideways on back roads at big speeds, i decided life was sweeter than death.
i fancy a 540 of the six speed type but trying to find a sensible miler is like looking for a nun who fancies some.
m3 and m5 i just don't know. don't take this the wrong way but every buggers got one or a lookalike. you know what i mean? i like to be different.
nice ideas though you two.

A8s are gorgeous, but its ability to swallow mountains of cash, especially in repairs to the ali body is scary... If you like the Minor, then this should appeal: MG Midget, with new Heritage bodyshell, K-Series engine & 5 speed 'box, + all the suspension goodies. Weighs only about 750kg, so brilliant power to weight ratio, but unlike a Caterham / Westfield, it would have the element of surprise ;D £5k should get a decent one with only several '000 miles since the rebuild. i personally wouldn't want any BMW, mainly because of the badge and the way it is percieved (sorry NickB )

Peugeot 505 GTi V6.
£5K should leave plenty of money for breakdowns and fuel. Last of the old style Pug big saloons. Quick, classy, odd and comfy.

i personally wouldn't want any BMW, mainly because of the badge and the way it is percieved (sorry NickB ) Don't worry, I won't take it personally - hey, I wouldn't be seen dead in an Austin Healy - bit too string-back gloves and warm beer for me... MOGGY - How's about this? cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=18305&item=4519972720&rd=1OK, so well under the budget - but you could psend a few £££ getting it on song? Or I'm sure a minter wouldn't be more than 5k. Certainly unusual....
