Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. If you have slowness you need to head here: forum.retro-rides.org/thread/227925/important-ads-coming-backWell the ads have returned. I did a bit of number juggling over the weekend and I think they are here for a while, so lets make the best of them. I'm back working on the theme update so the site should improve a bit and then I want to be on a series of continuous improvements. There is a follow up thread to the sausage factory one to be done, I'm still drawing pictures and getting my thoughts straight on that though. Other than that, I'm currently missing being at SEMA, I was super chill and very happy not to be there, until I saw photos yesterday. So giving proper consideration to going to Essen Motorshow, which seems to be Europe's closest equivalent. What is happening in your world car wise? NGL I'm as nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs...got 2 MOTs due this week (the 911 and the Dodge Pickup). Not so nervous about the Porsche as it's dry stored - although they usually find something - but the truck was a curse word to get through last time AND I've got a buyer lined up for it if I can get it tested 😬
Could be an expensive month or a profitable one, we'll see...
Hoping to get the PT Cruiser road legal this week too and consoling myself with quick wins in the Grand Vitara which I'm really enjoying pootling about in

Had the excitement of new car day yesterday But it’s got the original cassette player, so new is maybe misleading It’s just another Lupo for me to use as a runaround, was really cheap because of vw lacquer peel… Most of the lacquer is now gone from any horizontal panels

Wife's car had a hissy fit on the way home fro, seeing me last night, all the dash warning lights flashed on but the car ran fine. Sod's law diagnostics showing nothing so it's booked into the garage to investigate further. Brothers car developed an issue over the weekend too, all things I'd normally look into and resolve or advise but feel so helpless being stuck in hospital still.
Hopefully nothing to major for either.....

skinnylew that sounds like a low battery or bad earth somewhere. The past couple of days (here at least) have been freshly cold battery killers.

skinnylew that sounds like a low battery or bad earth somewhere. The past couple of days (here at least) have been freshly cold battery killers. It's a relatively fresh battery but the car isn't being used much. I suggested it seems more sensor or earth relat d but it's booked into to the garage so they can deal with it and I trust them. Just don't like the thought of my wife being stranded without me to assist 😔 Thankfullly it will only be local and we have family/friends who can assist.

Not had much interest in the Almera yet, I'd been hoping to avoid fb marketplace but I think I may have to go there..
Drove the 166 down to London to see family on Sunday, stopped off at Cambridge services on the way back, parked up next to a chap in a Toyota Carina II estate who was very complimentary of the Alfa, but I thought the Carina looked good also, seemed to be lowered on Mk1 MR2 wheels, sadly at night so no pics
Have started to take bits of the Alfa's interior apart though as the lack of functional central locking and the sticky dash plastics are very annoying!

In exciting "being more productive news" I think I've finally cracked an issue that has been really bugging me for ages. Which is when the ads refresh you lose focus on the editor box (both on desktop and mobile). This isn't an unusual issue apparently, but it is a pain in the backside. So I've been typing this through three ad refreshes and it has maintained the cursor in this box the whole time. Hurrah.
One step closer to the "June" update being ready before the end of November. Got to re-do some of the changes between screen sizes to account for some bits and pieces I've been doing. Hang tight.
Oh and Club RR people if you are reading this, I'm working on a new page so you can go in and make sure your forum name is correct, hoping it will be with you by the end of the week and we can really get this show on the road.

I may* have gotten to the bottom of the Oldsmobile overheating* - its not so much overheating as chucking coolant out. HGs are fine, I've sniff tested it and flushed it and await a road test of any distance to see
I have decided to take on the RAV4 at least for now. Its paying for insurance and road tax and damn it will also need an MOT but I know the thing, its 32000 miles FSH and one owner (my late mum) so I can't go wrong with that I guess. Except the battery EXPLODED in it on the CTEK battery minder! WTAF

Finally discovered the mystery squeak on the Princess: CV boots are squeaking against themselves when cold. Only found it when I had both front wheels off the ground. There were quite a few classics on my way home today, which was a bit odd for a Wednesday afternoon even for Lincolnshire, including a rather lovely blue and white Ford Zephyr/Zodiac Mk2.
I am still waiting for my windscreen to arrive from Pilkingtons too. Ordered and paid for at the start of June this year, my last update was that it should be here by about now, but they were waiting for the glass to come from Finland. Not really sure why exactly it's taken this long to get a single windscreen, certainly no longer feels like value for money as I won't get this fitted until next year now.

After the tribulations of the cracked block on the Chevy I've been focused on the Chrysler which is another vehicle with hacked about Wiring, worn switchgear and broken interior bits Frustratingly bought an interior for a seat swap via Ebay only for trade seller to come back to me advising they'd sold it in August🙄 so now trying source alternatives. Seem to spend far too much time seeking and/or waiting for parts - always a risk with USA cars but it's every time at the minute.

I am feeling better than ever, which seems to be because about a month ago I stopped drinking energy drinks and now drink water as my main drink, with non energy pop as a treat I don't drink hot drinks anyway, but I've been caning energy pop for decades. I didn't really stop for a reason other than I couldn't be bothered to go to the cash & carry, but after 2 days of very bad withdrawal symptoms and another 5 days of been all over the place I felt better, and I've now got a ridiculous amount of energy and I'm making crazy progress on everything.

Well heck, got an e-mail today to let me know the Princess windscreen is finally getting delivered tomorrow! Still won't be able to fit it until spring because my friend that's painting the roof can't do it until then. Now I get the fun of being terrified of breaking the screen until it's fitted.

Oh and Club RR people if you are reading this, I'm working on a new page so you can go in and make sure your forum name is correct, hoping it will be with you by the end of the week and we can really get this show on the road. Spent most of the day working on this (which wasn't what I planned), had to reshape how the data is stored. It is almost ready to go though, so hopefully email out to everyone this weekend. It is the starting point (very very early) of a management page for members info. Back to baby steps, but hopeful it will all come together nicely.

Haven't been able to access my email for 7 months, so if it gets no response from me you know why (brain injury makes one forget passwords unsurprisingly except this one on here as it's been that way forever lol )

There has not been much car related stuff going on. As a few may know, I've been trying to get rid of 3 of my parents cars, leaving whichever one is left to be kept. The cars include. -'07 Saab 9-3 1.8t Linear -'07 Audi C6 A6 2.0 PD TDI SE Avant -'11 Ford Mondeo Mk4 2.0 TDCI Titanium X Powershift Bar the Mondeo, the other two are cheap, albeit the Audi isn't being pushed as much, as my dad would rather keep that. The Mondeo as I expected was the first to sell. It almost marks over 20 years of us being Mondeo free in the family. From 1993, when my dad had an RS kitted State Blue 2.0 Si, before flirting with BMWs between 2000 and 2003, Mondeos have been in the family since then, from a Mk2 1.8 TD GLX which got clocked ALOT by the next owners. I still see my old Mk4 2.5T around, but only because I sold it to a friend. Deciding where to advertise them was tricky, as I wanted to avoid FB Marketplace, especially with how the Passat sale went down ; basically, everyone told me it was worth £300, and were very keen to tell me so. Funny that I bought it off FB for more money, with far more wrong with it, with the lady getting 30 messages to see it that day. So eBay and autotrader were going to be where the above were listed. Not had much interest in the Almera yet, I'd been hoping to avoid fb marketplace but I think I may have to go there.. Drove the 166 down to London to see family on Sunday, stopped off at Cambridge services on the way back, parked up next to a chap in a Toyota Carina II estate who was very complimentary of the Alfa, but I thought the Carina looked good also, seemed to be lowered on Mk1 MR2 wheels, sadly at night so no pics Have started to take bits of the Alfa's interior apart though as the lack of functional central locking and the sticky dash plastics are very annoying! I'd avoid MB for the reasons above, unless you have a very thick skin, and can sift through wannabe Mike Brewers. My friend sells via friends/word of mouth and Marketplace, and it gets him down, even with his cut of the jib. You'd have thought a C1 at £1k would fly out the door these days. I think Autotrader are free below £1k, so I'd go down that route. It's how my Passat sold well TBH, as well as the Mondeo. I am feeling better than ever, which seems to be because about a month ago I stopped drinking energy drinks and now drink water as my main drink, with non energy pop as a treat I don't drink hot drinks anyway, but I've been caning energy pop for decades. It's funny what a change in eating can do eh? Fair play to you! For different reasons to you, I am enjoying feeling far more awake, but it has involved me going to the doctors for antibiotics and steroids. It's almost like a bad cold a month ago really knocked me about.

I think Autotrader are free below £1k, so I'd go down that route. It's how my Passat sold well TBH, as well as the Mondeo. I had thought Autotrader might be free for cheap cars, but no cost me £9.95 I believe for the most basic ad package, still cheaper than an ebay classified ad at £19.99. I've had it up on ebay, Autotrader and carandclassic for a week now, on ebay I've got 135 views/3 watchers, on autotrader 143 views and on carandclassic 216 views with 2 watchers. So the free platform has had the most views so far! All being well it may be off soon anyway... On the flip side, I've been looking to buy a new daily for my gf, nothing retro or too exciting (2012 on, 5 door hatch). I've always seen Autotrader as being a little bit more pricey for cars (though not always the case at all), but my god their search functions are so much better to use than ebay or fb marketplace, the other two really could do with catching up as I'll bet buyers are missing so many cars just due to the search filters being absolute rubbish

Marketplace is a joke for searching for anything specific. If you want "generic rubbish in a 60 mile radius" that seems to be its model of operation. But I guess you get what you pay for.
