Hey Folks! Another week, another weekly chat, your place for stuff that may not warrant a full thread or stuff that is just going on right now that you want to share. Well I did the big old thread of thoughts, which was super useful for getting things out of my brain and on to the screen. Next is to wrangle those in to some kind of action plan and then to execute that. I definitely have room in there for people to lend a hand, even if all you do is browse the forum. Let's talk about that when I've communicated what I'm thinking though. In other news the Ads WILL be returning in short order, we've proved they were the thing at fault with the forum, the ads provider has backed that up. The only problem is the fix is to clear your cookies and local storage, which I don't want to make people do for EVERY site and frankly not everyone knows how to do it. So trying to get a browser by browser type step by step process written up to just get rid of RR cookies and storage (you'll need to re-login I expect). One of the dailies is off for an MOT tomorrow morning, fingers crossed, it is the Land Rover based one... How are things with you? I found myself on someone else's channel on YouTube for a change:
Other than that, got some "me" time to focus on my own stuff, culminating in a first drive of my wee kit car. Didnt exactly go smoothly but at least I have a clear idea of the final solution.
Lovely old Merc (tm) is doing exactly what I hoped it would, providing drama free daily transport.
Race final for the Autotest championship will be the big preparation push this week, I think the wee MX5 needs a new LSD and I will need every tick in the box to hold onto my 2nd place podium this year...
At some point I'm sure some sleep might happen in amongst that, although reading it back I'm unsure when that will be!

I am making super progress on several fronts at the moment. Part of my reasoning for getting the unit is that I want my house/garden to be nice, so I've been trying to get the front garden sorted, which is basically a case of removing several tons of soil by hand then making a parking space on it instead. I've limited myself to shifting half ton an evening after work or I'll burn out (that's dug, bagged and dumped). Managed to get the new lift picked up this week. One of the limits of the place is the roof is quite low so went for a hydraulic scissor lift type. I also picked up some bigger engines for the Carlton as it would be rude not to whilst it's in bits.

I am almost officially, for the first time in my life, an unemployed person - at least I will be by the time Saturday comes around. I haven't been fired - I quit after a restructure took my job away from me. I am taking a couple of months off after spending 15 years doing time-critical computer based work, and I am extremely grateful to be able to do this.
Many small "round the house" jobs have been completed, and Midas work is once again being looked at. Mojo is slowly returning, and I look forward to potentially starting a new job doing something other than sitting at a desk. Hopefully this will have some involvement with 4 wheeled vehicles (although I cannot drive a public service vehicle or anything larger than 3.5 tonnes or 8 seats due to being Type 1 Diabetic). In the words of Captain Kirk, "Let's see what's out there".

I still have a mystery squeak on the Princess front driver's corner, no idea what's causing it, nobody that's looked at it can find it.
I am drawn to the conclusion that the car is, in fact, haunted. It's the only rational explanation.

Nice, 3.0 24v should notice the difference!

Rehab started for me this week, will be interesting to see how it goes, might be done by Christmas, might not who knows, if I could just get shot of this whole being sick thing it would help a lot. Hospital I am in now is peaceful and calm which helps a lot, and I can see trees and planes heading too/from Biggin Hill which is nice. Hopefully be home soon.

Check the timing chain guides aren't worn out or cracked Port match the Banana manifold to the Injector manifold and then that to the cyl The way I used to do it was use a 4mm drill bit and drill at each end of the manifold thro the banana and injector rail and into the head - that way you can use a bit of 4mm rod as an alignment tool for all of it so it all stays in alignment. Oh and pay really careful attention to the top of the inlet port on the head - the casting is terrible and the injector basically squirts atomised fuel onto the port wall where it condenses back into droplets All those little tweaks are Worth a fair few bhp (essentially free bhp)

I've replaced my sensible Almera daily with a less sensible Alfa 166, but I'm loving it so far 😁

Went to my local club meet on Sunday morning, some great stuff there as always. Mate of mine has just bought this Renault 11, was brilliant to get a good look around it. Other highlights included this Delta Integrale and this fantastic Series I Land Rover, all original, spent 71 years working in the Australian outback. Fantastic!

gtviva the 2.6 was worst of both worlds really. It's not fast and uses all the fuel. Apparently the 24v's are a bit better on juice and should be a fair bit quicker with another 50hp. Ian - point noted. The engine will be fully gone through before I fit it. I'm keeping it as an auto so don't want to fit uprated cams or anything so any extra bits of free power I can pick up will be perfect. Would be nice with a supercharger strapped to the side though lol.

Little bit of of bling purchased for project Carlton TTV? Yep, just got to try and sort a clutch plate, don't think you can use the standard plate due to the spring arrangement
