Well I walk to work, you're all soft southerners. Even the ones from north of here! On the subject of Mini heaters. The standard heater from about MkIII onwards does a damned good job. However I find that there are lots of other things, usually due to poor maintainence that cause you to get cold tootsies. 1. Clogged up matrix, flush your cooling system completely when you change the coolant. 2. Stuck heater tap. Make sure the heater tap opens and closes when you move the conytol knob, if not make sure the tap and cable are cleaned and lubed. If the tap itself is stuck replace it, it doesn't cost much. 3. Stuck thermostat. Sometimes this can be masked by the temperature gauge reading warm because the wrong temp sender is fitter or the voltage stabilizer on the gauges is shot. 4. Low coolant level, so there's no water in the heater matrix. I had a friend who whinged about his mini's heater blowing cold for months. When he finally let me look at it the cable had snapped so the tap was staying closed all the time. Granny sucking and eggs spring to mind mate. Checked all that, it's just curse word

Sell my your eberspacher if you gonna sell the fasty it will be going to a good and deserving home, I should have learnt from my first one that its not a good idea to drive a splitty as a daily driver in winter. The best heater I can claim to have had was acually in my old Imp, used to melt my feet after just a few mins, lovely and toasty... then the engine went

dminifreak - its funny about your car's heating, I can always remember remarking on the effectiveness of the heater in my college mates Mini Mayfair 850 (Many many moons ago) The Mini heater knob even has a picture of a fire on it - and seemed apt at the time! On the other hand I can sympathise with VW van/bus drivers having travelled all the way down to Woolacome last Christmas in a Devon bay camper with ineffective heat exchangers Brrrr

Mind you, I think I need to make sure there's no air in the cooling system of mine, I've had a few problems with that lately, a good bleed, lots of new water, and lots of antifreeze should sort it right out!

Despite the heater being stuck on, the well-dressed HA van driver will be sporting a traditional donkey jacket this winter!

You lot have obviously never driven a decent Volvo Amazon then - an old car without any of the stereotypical 'old car' problems They have an arctic grade heater (quicker & hotter than the one on dad & step mum's Volvo 850) - I often have to switch it off or open the windows, even at this time of year. I drive and treat mine like a modern car. Also very dependable - so far it has never failed to get home in nearly 11 years.

Oh, I've driven plenty of Volvos with that sort of heating ability, we have a 940 at the moment that's excellent, much better than the heater in the other 940s we've had, heats up near enough as soon as you turn the key, warms you up quickly too, as it's really hot, and the demisting is rapid too, but the great thing is the air conditioning works well too so it's great on hot days too! Volvos are great when I need/want such a big comfy motor with loads of room, normally I go the masochistic route and take the Imp!

Yup - Vovlo heaters... dontcha love 'em? Toptaff's 244 heater is mega, and with the predicted cold snap, reassuring for an old codger like me...

Been out driving the Sprite today - found out that I need wipers on the inside of the 'screen as well.... ;D My fault though, as I couldn't be bothered to get the hood out of the boot - it's little more than a pathetic excuse for a tent, and normally much quicker to just drive home Otherwise though, it's nice to be able to drive it again (been nearly a month ), and to give it a good thrashing ;D The Amazon is currently behaving itself, & starting first time, even on a cold frost morning - the only problems recently being a weakened throttle return spring on the front carb (it eventually broke) & a carb damper piston which pierced through it's plastic top. Both caused rough running & pinking, but typically for a Volvo, it still kept going ;D
