...There's as much ice on the inside of the windscreen as the outside. Jeez, how cold is it this morning? My hands can't feel to grip, as Bob Dylan might have once said.

I remember driving my first imp by looking out the bottom of the windscreen as that was the only part the heater cleared.

Pah! The heater in the Beemer is 100 times better than the one in our (much newer) Astra. Show me a Vauxhall with a decent heater and I'll give you a tenner....(claimant collects!). That said, the Beemer did chuck a paddy after I'd had it up in the air to put the new rims on last night. Coughed and spluttered in an unpleasant way...Not sure what was going on....normal service appears to have now been resumed!

Well I walk to work, you're all soft southerners. Even the ones from north of here! On the subject of Mini heaters. The standard heater from about MkIII onwards does a damned good job. However I find that there are lots of other things, usually due to poor maintainence that cause you to get cold tootsies. 1. Clogged up matrix, flush your cooling system completely when you change the coolant. 2. Stuck heater tap. Make sure the heater tap opens and closes when you move the conytol knob, if not make sure the tap and cable are cleaned and lubed. If the tap itself is stuck replace it, it doesn't cost much. 3. Stuck thermostat. Sometimes this can be masked by the temperature gauge reading warm because the wrong temp sender is fitter or the voltage stabilizer on the gauges is shot. 4. Low coolant level, so there's no water in the heater matrix. I had a friend who whinged about his mini's heater blowing cold for months. When he finally let me look at it the cable had snapped so the tap was staying closed all the time.

It was pretty cold up here as well, (if you don't like the cold, don't live on a Scottish coastline!) bloody River Clyde, the wind coming off it hurts your face a lot, and I agree that it's worse when you're cold AND wet! The bloody Imp froze solid last night, so it took about half a tin of de-icer just to get in the car and be able to see enough to drive away, then there's the hilarity of a cold Imp engine! That's it, I'm getting electronic ignition!
