RE; Wheels - I'd also say they are from a VW T5. Get these two different wheels 'side by side' and you can tell the slight different in the 'holes'. VW T5 Mini Cooper

nath looking at your pics I'd say they look closer to the mini ones? As the holes in the VW ones are flat whereas the mini ones are stamped into a curved face? It doesn't matter too much I suppose, as I'll be banding them and they have the correct pcd

So the mystery of the interior lights not working has deepened...
When I open any door, the sidelights come on.
Still getting me to work though!

I wont try and be smart and quote something i read without giving you the resource where I got it from. So here is a whole thread on the issue: XJ40 Light Issues HTH

Cheers nath - I'm pleased and embarrassed to say it was a fuse! I'd initially read the fuse map wrong and checked the wrong one. To add to the confusion, the interior lights were working very dimly in certain circumstances; for example if I opened any door the map light would come on. If I turned one of the interior lights on without the sidelights, the glove box light would come on! When I was checking the fuse boxes to see why the central locking stopped working I realised my error and replaced the 7.5 amp fuse. Let there be light! So the central locking is still misbehaving - I get nothing pulling or pressing the door pins. When I press the central lock button I hear a relay on the passenger side click. If I hold the button for a second I also get a click on the driver's side and if I hold it a bit longer I get a click from the back. The fuse is ok. The remote boot release stopped working last week - not the fuse The horn has stopped working - that went from a nice twin tone to a single tone to nothing 😂 I think that's the actual horn itself as the fuse is ok. Other than that it's wonderful 😂😂 Oh - and I'm bidding on a set of these: They're 16s If I win them I'll be banding them and then and plan to run them with a classic jaguar centre cap in the middle.

Ooh neat! Would like to see what they look like.
Also interested in the central locking. Mine's never worked and I've yet to dive into why...

If they have had aftermarket alarms fitted take a look at what they have done, its common to remove the switched unit in the drivers door and replace with a dumb one then use the alarm and its remote control to lock / unlock.

Won a set of 16" mini steels on eBay for £30 😎 Any tips on removing tyres without a machine? Next step I'll be bolting them on and see how much I can get them banded by.

Hi guys - can anyone recommend a trusted wheel banding place in the North West?

Not in the northwest but I’ve always used Essex Banded Steels. Never had any issues with them. It is a long way from you but they will ship them back if you send them down.

She let me down!! Had a few days when it didn't catch as quickly when starting and then just wouldn't start at all. I haven't had a chance to look at it yet. Any XJ40 specific issues I could check for?

Slower to catch, then not at all? I'd be checking earths before anything else. Well, except battery voltage.

No she's spinning over just as quick - it would start after 4 or 5 spins and increased over the week to 10+ and then at the weekend it's not firing at all. I need to check fuel and spark and take it from there but I've had a few cars where people say things like, 'oh wiggle fuse 7 - always happens' and I was hoping there might be a magical XJ40 fix before I start fault finding!

Ahhh, gotcha. Sounds more like a crank sensor that's died. I've had that failure method before.

rodharris83 Phil2600s never heard of the Andy bracket - what sort of difference does it make? I guess I'll buy a crank sensor and cross my fingers! I can always send it back I guess
