Hi guys - I fitted a new steering wheel to the Jag and made a little vid of the process. Help me out by subscribing to my channel Any new subscribers are getting their social names on my Capri rocker cover over winter!

She has a new MoT! Also, as you can see in the video above, I fitted a new steering wheel which is soooo much better to drive with than the massive standard one (although I do like the original for looks).

Looks good! I've been tempted a couple of times to get a different wheel in the '40, but for me the standard boat tiller just suits it. It was one of the main reasons I bought the car! But yours does look smart

Could be a vac issue. There's a line that runs to a little bellows valve thing on the passenger's side bulkhead. It's worth checking if that moves freely (ish). You could check it's moving when you pop the heat on too. So I followed this and lo and behold, after I tapped it a few times and spun it round a little I had heat!!! 😁 For 10 minutes 😭 So the rest vents and floor vents were hot - the dash ones were cold (although the middle ones don't do much) bit after 10 minutes of warm tootsies, air stopped coming out of the floor and rear vents 🤔 the blower motor is still working on all settings though. Hopefully I'll get a chance over half term to play

Weird.
There's more vacuum lines that control different internal flaps in the heater matrix to direct air different places. Having a root around in the front footwells for where they are and giving them a wiggle might pay dividends too. Or tracing the lines and checking they're still connected (they've got little rubber joiners that might have perished).

If it's like the range rover there will be a vac reservoir and one way valve between the heater and the manifold, idea being the reservoir holds a vacuum at all times equivalent to idle, otherwise cruise at motorway speeds and your heater packs up.
As above I'd start at the engine and trace the pipework checking for leaks and that the one way valve works.

There's definitely some loose or broken hoses or pipes underneath the centre console armrest as when I close the rear vents aid starts coming from underneath the side of the console 😂 well it did before the vents stopped blowing! Think I might start stripping the dash and console down a bit but so it's still drivable and have a poke about.

But yours does look smart I have to agree on the standard pre airbag wheel - looks great and really gives a good classic look to the interior. I was in two minds for a while!

The dash is one of the few bits I haven't taken apart on the car!
The vac reservoir for '90-92 XJ40s is under the battery. I've got a spare one somewhere if yours is duff.
There's two little foot-warmer pipes that are connected to the lower leather trim panels in each of the front footwells. Could be that they're not fitted straight as they're a bit of a faff. You can get to most of the vacuum connectors with just the trim panels out of the way (I think anyway).
Oh, and be very gentle if you're taking the ski slope off (the bit of trim around the gearstick). The veneer gets very brittle with age and snaps very easily. Mine's completely shot.

Thanks man! Really appreciate all your knowledge and help ☺️👌
My ski slope is a bit nasty already but I'm hoping to restore it so I'll be careful!
Do you mean you can access most of it with just the wood trim off?

No worries And no, not the wood trim. The leather-clad covers under the steering wheel and above the passenger's feet. Once you've got those off you should be able to see some more little bellows things, though I can't quite remember where they are (I think they're tucked up under the driver's side near the tunnel. If I remember rightly there's a little cable running from the dials to the bellows that control some of the flaps inside for heat. If the vac lines running to those are the loose ones then perhaps that'll fix your heat issue. I'd guess that the switch to turn the fans on or off is electrical though. At least I'd bloody hope it is! There's a fan in each footwell, and you can get to the plugs (just about) if you wanted to test if they're still working. Oh, silly question but have you checked the fuse? Also, not sure if you've taken the ski slope off before but you need to start with taking the armrest storage cubby floor out and work forwards from there as everything overlaps. Oh, and when you get to the base of the ski slope there's some little plastic wingnuts holding it on underneath that are very easy to drop and just disappear into the ether. Ask me how I know!

Current idea is they're from a mini countryman and have been banded. I love the look (although maybe not as big as them) you can get them in 16s Which would suit the look I'm going for a bit more.
Let the research continue!
Also - tomorrow, I'm going to start stripping the dash to try and get some heat out of her 🤞

I think pcd is 5x120 so could they be from a vw T5?

VW T5 would be a good source. I think some of the povo-spec 2.9s came with steels, but they'd be 15" I expect.
I was thinking the other days how good one of these would look with mooneye-like hubcaps.

I'm fairly certain they're from a Mini Countryman G60
I wouldn't want them banded this much as I'm after more of a Restomod feel. I really like the way the series 3 looks with it's steels and chrome caps. Airbags seems too difficult to pull off at the moment so a gentle lowering on some banded steels would fit the bill. I wouldn't want stretched tyres though. I've found a set about 40 minutes away for £30 - just checking pcd. It's then about 50 quid per wheel for banding

Stripped the dash - played with some vac lines and managed to get no further. I have heat in the floor vents and rear vent The door at the back of the centre vents remains closed but when manually pushed open cold air comes through no matter what settings. Side vents do next to nothing but are always cold. Also - since putting the dash back together I now have no interior lights or central locking 🤦 Also - there is a hefty looking earth strap that doesn't appear to be attached to anything. Could I have knocked it off and that's why I've lost the central locking and interior lights?

All of my interior lights have stopped working (boot, visors etc.) and the lightning bolt is on the dash so that's got to be a fuse. Unsure of the central locking issue at the moment but I'll carry on playing!
