Hello all
I'm currently working on a new model project and I need some help with finding some information from you all if you can? This is a CAD render of the model so far an 88" Wheel base Light weight Air Transprtable Landrover Series 3 As you can see I have plenty of info on the main vehicle and can proceed along with that fine the section I need info and help with is the 2.5 Litre Petrol engine, I idealy would like some drawings for the engine side/end and plan views if possible if not what other vehicles was the 2.5 fitted to as I may beable to fimd what I need searching for info on those vehicles. These are refrence pictures I scavenged from eBay so I don't have access to the vehicle. Any help from anyone would be much appreciated. Pete

We have a very early (K reg?) civilian Series 3 at work - currently just a restored rolling chassis with bulkhead & rad panel fitted, so I can take some good elevation photos of the engine etc if that's any help?

Wouldn't the air portable have been fitted with a 2.25l rather than the 2.5?

Is it a special request to model the 2.5? Not a std engine from memory - came in with the 110 not a series. Late std series 3's had the 5 main bearing (5mb) 2 1/4 engine which is different to the earlier 3mb 2 1/4's in appearance - webbed block for strength and block is the same petrol or diesel. This was then fitted to early 110's in metric form (looks the same block wise but different webber carb sometimes called the 2.3 but was still 2286)- this was stretched to the 2.5 but externally identical. Engine numbers to look for are 10H & 17J Suspect that Block webbing would be the main differential. - Photos of our '2.3' engine below if that's any help. Don't think this engine was fitted to anything else other than Land Rovers. James

Yeah it would have been a 2.25, same as any other series vehicle, although pretty much identical to the 2.5 from the outside apart from the carb and intake manifold and probably breather arrangement I think?
Pete- might be worth asking on lr4x4.com as they are a very helpful bunch. I have two 4 cylinder petrols but both are at my parents about 25 miles away (one in their garage, and one installed in my series 2 swb which is kept over there).
Interestingly the one in the garage came out of my very early 90 so it has the later carb setup, and I *think* Landover marketed it as a 2.3 at the time to try and make it sound different to the series engine, even though they are the same 2286cc displacement...

Once in a 110 / 90 believe no external difference between a '2.3' & a 2.5 - different jets in the twin choke Weber carb only. I think that on a series 3 the carb / intakes are as per the earlier 3mb engine but with the block with ribs on it. For a lightweight if you modelled the cylinder head from an earlier 3mb 2 1/4 onto a later 5mb block from a 2.5 petrol or diesel (even a 2.5 turbo diesel I suspect) you would be correct. James

Preogress so far. Still a fair bit to go on the design until this stage of the project is finished.

Looks good! One minor change is that the rocker cover shouldn't have the plastic oil filler cap, it would have had an oil filler neck bolted to the drivers side of the block like this:
