Sadly I think all magazines days are numbered. I personally haven't bought any magazine in ages, and at one point I probably bought maybe 25 a month. I gave up because I thought the magazine's were getting expensive, the page count was going down, the amount of adverts was going up, and at one point in a couple of magazine's the pages with adverts outnumbered the pages with articles. Not only that, but I found that the photography, and writing became quite poor in a lot of the magazine's I bought. Added to that, everything is on the internet for free, so why splash your cash on something you'll be throwing away in a week or so? Lastly, YouTube, and other stuff like that. Reading takes more effort than watching something on the screen, and the pictures don't move. So people who read for fun are getting less and less as there's more enjoyment to be had watching some sort of show in my opinion. Journalism quality seconded; what happened to real road tests, including tested performance and fuel consumption figures, braking distances, speedometer error, etc? Now it's just copy and paste the manufacturer's claims, mixed with a lot of waffle.

Christ Harris mentioned this on his Collecting Cars podcast with Harry Metcalfe. I think the cars we all have are at the shows are evidence of that point. A lot of my Opinions are similar to Dez’s, but I’ll feedback later on when work is done

Sad news, I regularly buy it, not the best value but always like the updates on the meteor powered SD1 and Dave walkers column. I subscribe to Practical classics but am thinking of ditching it, it's lost to much of the practical for me. Classic and Sportscar is the one I will stick with, well written with some great background and historic stories.

I get practical classics every month as it’s a freebie with my bank account. Is it just me that when reading a printed magazine sometimes find myself putting two fingers on a picture and trying to expand it like it’s on an iPad 😂

It's a shame but with Internet use like it is now mags are simply something I don't need when I can find stuff on my phone. Sort of related to the topic at hand, as it’s this months Classic & Sports Car mag. Anyhow I saw this & thought of you mr bmcnut 😀

Pretty cool - which bank are you with? lloyds, had an old account that I was paying a fairly big account fee on, so changed it to a classic account (I think) and dropped the account fee with an added bonus of a free gift every month, be it cinema vouchers, restaurant or mag subscription etc

…snip… If print media wants to survive, it needs to be in high quality, in depth, exclusive periodicals, like the rodders journal. Once or twice a year but a proper event to get it, and actually have content worth reading and that you can’t get elsewhere. Yeah; except The Rodders Journal didnt make it through covid either. I thought they were pretty well bullet proof but goes to show print media doesn’t have the draw. In the US the newsstand has truck magazines, some 50’s style/lifestyle type magazines, hot rod and Grassroots Mororsports. Pretty much all put out by mom and pop publishers rather than big conglomerates.

If print media wants to survive, it needs to be in high quality, in depth, exclusive periodicals, like the rodders journal. Once or twice a year but a proper event to get it, and actually have content worth reading and that you can’t get elsewhere. To me that means thick high quality paper stock, large photos learning towards the artistic rather than the functional and interesting layouts. Page layout is one of the areas that digital mostly fails compared to print, as we are so limited by the formats that social media allow us to work in. I think you're right on this front. In one of my other hobbies (40k) there's a very successful print media product called '28mag'. Although it's free and available as a PDF download so doesn't quite demonstrate the model works financially, it follows the approach you say above. It's an annual release that feels like a real event when it's finally ready, and a solid chunk of the hobby are counting down waiting for it to come out. When it does it's 300 pages of solid, quality, inspirational content that you can spend hours and hours reading and looking at the pretty pictures. Taking the whole year to go out and find/create/gather content makes it a real quality proposition. A lot of folks have said that they'd happily pay a fair chunk of money to have a printed version to put on their tabletops and things like that. It also helps that a lot of the content is written by the community so it feels like you're really part of it, and that the mag is an integral part of the community as well.

I subscribed for a couple of years in the beginning.
I loved the magazine.
It filled some of my Triple C craving.
The only reason I gave up on it was because of the international mail of these mags being so bad.
( getting here months late, if at all)
But...
I did give up on it.
So I'm part of the problem.
Thanks to the PPC staff, for a heroic effort...

Sad to see, as a long time subscriber. Still have every issue, and had a couple of emails published.
I agree with errors (spelling errors, sections repeated or missing) spoiling things. Plus the gradual lack of content and the inevitable growing cost.
Any suggestions on how to fill the PPC void?

Any suggestions on how to fill the PPC void? There genuinely isn't anything. Retro Cars went, Fast Cars went, PPC now gone. I like the idea of something like 28mag (as per biturbo228 ) for the modified car scene. Other niche hobbies have gone through similar transitions, it has taken cars a long time due to the size of the hobby I expect. When we looked at doing the Retro Rides magazine and tried to Kickstart it we were aiming for the glossy quarterly approach. We dodged a bullet I reckon as it would have launched in April/May 2020! I actually considered also going the other way, proper oldschool Zine type publication, my wife gets a few on various esoteric subjects, they seem to come out infrequently, cost about £8-10*, are all black and white and dense with text. Not sure how that would work for the very visual world of cars. I know someone (maybe tdk ??) was doing a magazine that was mainly stories and not much (if any) photos. *often come with little extras like stickers and such

Regarding Custom Car, both the Editor and Deputy Editor are jumping ship. Doesn't look good for the future of the mag

{sigh} Triple C ... stares into the distance with a slightly glazed expression ... I still have all my triple C mags from 1973 to when it stopped.. All in order. I know they are not worth much but i cant get rid of them as they influenced so much of my car building and racing.. Nothing on the market like that these days.

{sigh} Triple C ... stares into the distance with a slightly glazed expression ... I never understood why triple c ended and it had to morph into ppc . I admit I'd stopped buying it a bit before that as it had already started to water down its content. I bloody loved ccc , it's where I learnt about cars as a kid , I loved the at the clinic features as well as Dave walker.

I have a pile of CCC in the loft. They were rescued from a mate who was just starting to burn them in his garden! There was also Rod and Custom and Street Machine. I never bought PPC but my 100e was in the first issue.
