Thanks
You mean why they wouldn't bend the front & rear pieces for me?
I gave that some thought, specially since they were so helpful when I asked for replacement side pieces.
It could be that they get all kinds of crazy requests and they have to draw the line somewhere.
But more likely, if their machine to bend the front and rear pieces looks like I think it does,
it will have 2 sets of rollers some distance apart with a 3rd one working working the opposite way in the middle of the first 2.
Depending on that distance, the outside ends of the profile will not get bent.
If so, the way to do it would be to do the entire bend( or arc) first, and then cut the piece to length.
Mine, since they were already the right length, would have had to be remade out of new oversize pieces.
I'm just guessing, but I bet that could be the case.
I kinda wish they would have given me the option to pay for a set of new ones ( if I'm right about the process), but they probably didnt realize how strongly I felt about it until I reported back that I made my own tool and bent them anyway...
About the limited use of the tool... Maybe not.
Its an improved version of one I made some 35 years ago, and I have been finding uses for that one from time to time over the years.
( in fact, I used that one to bend the guide rails the roof slides in, a couple of days ago)
And there is a job that I'll have to do soon that I hope I'll be able to use one of those 2 tools for ( the old one or the new one)
If not, I'll just have to make a 3rd one...
