I've debated putting one of these up for a while, and doing it now basically so I can see how far along I am with it, as it was essentially a breaker when i bought it Cheapest MOT'ed and driving ST when I was looking for one in 2018, as my Cougar only had 4 seats and child no.3 was on the way. Budget wasn't huge (child on the way plus wedding in 2019) so this was it. Was 100 miles away, arrive to find the seller a bit tipsy trying to reconnect the cables in the electric window mechanism with blind luck. Never mind, took it for a run, pulled ok, hadn't been messed with engine wise (yet) but he'd also reversed into his house and damaged the bumper, a spring had snapped on the back (the other side went on the journey home). Negotiated, brought it home, gave it the deepest clean of its life as it was minging. Have a few pics. A few days later it started making grin noises, this turned out to be the crank pulley or the aux belt tensioner, both of which are a weak spot on these, so much so it's done another 2 Gates crank pulleys since. Then the discs started wobbing under braking, so it got Mtec discs and good pads, then a wheel bearing started to go, followed by another. All this was in the first 4 weeks or so. So all of that was also done, plus a set of new tyres, a cheeky respray of the wheels plus a set of lowering springs brought us to here. It then behaved for a while so I started being nice to it, it's had a Cobra 3' stainless turbo back exhaust, the correct K&N induction kit and a decent size intercooler. Still going OK. Then the Egr shat itself so that got blanked. Basically since then it's been general maintenance, my brother sold me a set of facelift Focus ST wheels cheap, along with 20mm spacers front and rear, and the wife bought .e the TRC front splitter, which is an absolute mare and catches on everything. I've not long had it mapped and it does goes well and returns 40+ mpg. Few little touches like badges and mudflaps, be some things I've missed, it's on 201k now so it's not mint bit it does its job really well.

Lovely. Pretty much everything that's broke on yours has broke on mine. Also, most of the mods you've done are on my to do list, when funds allow. How did you lower it, coil overs or springs, what make/ brand did you use? What intercooler have you fitted? I've been looking at the big Airtech one.

They are LO springs on new genuine shocks, as the drop was supposed to be 40/30, but went more like 50-60 for some reason, everything was correct and I love the way it sits, but it is maybe a touch too low for a daily. And the intercooler is a Toyo Sports one, I didn't really see the point in the Airtec one as yes its much bigger, but it's all up behind the bumper with zero airflow so not really gaining anything. This one is much fatter and wider making a bit more use of the space. I do need to change all the boost pipes for silicon now though, they're showing their age a little bit.

I have a set of LO 40/30 springs, 20mm spacers and a set of silicone hoses in my eBay watch list. Once our holiday and spending money is sorted I'll be doing some shopping.

Well its dead, coughed and gave the coil light of death on way to work yesterday. Seems the fuel pump has gone and taken the injectors with it. Brother towed it home with his E34 last night, but I think its the end for it, lot of money to spend on a car that's on 206k. Nowhere to break it either, so will more than likely be sold spares or repairs to a breaker. Just waiting for my mechanic to get back off holiday to price it up, all hinges on that really. I really liked this one as well. So back to the trusty Astra now.

Oh, bad craic. Pump and injector failure are my biggest worry. Most other stuff is sortable at reasonable cost. I was just looking at the cost of injectors on ECP the other night. Even with their discount code applied it's still over 1k for all four! Shame, you had a nice looking motor.
☹️

I'm gutted tbh, it's put me off buying another unless there is a recent receipt for it, I want it repaired, I can get refurb injectors for 400 plus my old ones, so if I spend 1k on this or go spend 1k on another car that might blow up a week later... I want my mondeo back 🤣

So, bit of a curse word fortnight at home, almost lost my job as they're now farming out my job to contractors, and the wife has moved out. Kind of hard to stay positive atm, so keeping myself busy. Bought a new battery for this this morning, as the old was absolutely shagged, so it was there when I got round to getting it fixed. Just to make sure everything was still OK, I flicked the key and it cranked... and it coughed. Went to see my mechanic who said sling a fuel filter on it, but it's never that simple, new one on and woukd you know it it runs and drives fine now 😮💨 so 20 quid for a filter, 80 for the battery, one good long run and a top up of posh diesel, ive washed and polished it as its now in my good books again, I did vaguely advertise it for sale as spares or repairs, the amount of 150 quid offers I got was entertaining 😂

Sounds like a shitshow mate, really feel for you, but if you can put it down in words and put it out there then it shows you've got an objective view and a handle on things. You'll come out the other side shining I'm sure. Fwiw glad to see the mondeos running again!

Sorry to hear about your life woes but a good car result always buoys the mood a little. Love the Mondeo although personally I prefer the original wheels but I can imagine they're a pig to keep clean. I was looking at the longroof in the same colour which I think is the best.

I did like the original wheels, but I think they had gone porous, they just would not hold air for long, and they needed a refurb too. Keeping an eye out for a cheap set, although yes cleaning them was a chore to be fair. I wanted an estate, but got the hatch as they were just so much more expensive.

Chin up bro, I'm in a similar boat wife wise. Nice to see the car doesn't have to go. I'm now on the lookout for an estate, but it has to be the right one, not just a that'll do one. Something like my last one would be ideal.

That sill is shocking. Skirts do more than look good. The spacers really, really improve the look. So much so I'm now looking for some for my MK4
Love the snow pic, you seem to have an elderly Mondeo (white beard).
Hope things are looking up.

And it rewarded me today for all this hard work (and another new tyre this morning) by me going to get in it and the door handle coming off in my hand, had to send a lady I work with in through the back door to open it for me, second time its done it and I still can't work out why it's happening. Fixed now but still a faf.

Quite jealous of the Recaros. Not so much the sill. Just had to put a new caliper on mine as it had seized and freeing it off only worked for a day. Still looking for the 'right' estate.

I was looking for an estate when I found this, a lot have been used as work horses, so woukd have needed work, and the rear subframes are getting hard to come by now, and they're starting to all rot out. Settled for the hatch and to be fair the space inside is substantial, can get me, 2 kids and all our bikes inside without dismantling them at all. Wish I'd found the Recaros sooner to be fair, didn't realise how bad the original seats were, these are properly comfy.

blue oval or green oval it'll rust, they all used the same steel in the 2000's, and the same electrics
