Firstly, this is awesome so well done for thinking it up I'm intrigued to see what the plan is for hiding the chassis forward of the A-posts/firewall because the Kia was obviously much wider than the Ford body. Same goes for the front suspension. The original beam-type front axle ahead of the grille allows the bicycle fenders/headlamps to work but how is the wishbone setup going to be hidden to get the same effect? Anyway, keep up the good work. We have a partial plan to hide some of it but embrace other elements, but that will be a bit of making up as we go along. I want to make a strut bar that doubles as a headlight mount similar to the model A headlamp bars they had back in the day but with a twist if you catch my drift?

Makes the thread awkward to read on mobile IMO and a lot of people use phones to browse. Otherwise keep up the posting, interesting stuff!

I am known for loving stuff that does not fit moulds.
And this build really is creating its own mould.
I hope it all comes together really easy, and that the legal side is a cake walk.

Am I right in thinking that the motor in the KIA is a Mercedes derived lump. In which case could you use a RWD 2 wheel drive gear box fro a Merc. It would be a lot more compact than the Kia 4WD box, and free up some room in the cab.

Am I right in thinking that the motor in the KIA is a Mercedes derived lump. In which case could you use a RWD 2 wheel drive gear box fro a Merc. It would be a lot more compact than the Kia 4WD box, and free up some room in the cab. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hyundai_A_engine#D4CBLooks like this one is Kia's own unit (although someone smarter than me may know its derivation). Ssangyong ran the merc 2.9 for a while.

Close but not quite, there's a lot of Hyundai parts on this, almost like Skoda and VW, one of their van boxes will probably fit but right now we're using what we have, the running gear is mounted so low that the transfer case part is barely noticeable in the cab floor cut outs. I think a gearbox change would be a future job, currently want this done and on the road hahahaha.

Another job ticked off was cutting down the propshaft... which went well... weird how it didn't fit though, it was like someone moved the engine or something... The plan is just to use this for reference and get it either scratch built or have the tube done properly by an actual professional and not a yoof with a chop-saw. I think I cut about 600-700mm out of it to make it fit, I just had a slight slip yoke miscalculation resulting in needing to add a bit in, even after measuring three times! A short and sweet post tonight, been a bit lax lately! Braithwaite

What was the issue with the Kia handbrake? It looks like a decent position to me!
It's a good idea to try and keep your tunnel to simple shapes that can be easily formed & joined together, especially around the seat area. Having fiddly parts that require you to take the seats out to access the tunnel, or tunnel out to access the seats, is going to be a massive pain in the bum down the line. Not saying yours is going to be like that, but some advice all the same!

Not saying yours is going to be like that, but some advice all the same! The position was good but there wasn't enough space between two seats to comfortably get your hand down to operate it. Yeah I know what you're saying and like you say we plan to keep the shape simple and fit it in a way that the seats don't have to come out to remove parts of it etc. Advice is always greatly appreciated!

Couple of ideas for the handbrake, under dash umbrella style, American style pedal and release button or an electric one, no need for anything between the seats then Ttfn Glenn

In the USA the Empi Hydraulic Park lock is legal for the street. ( popular on sandrails, etc) May not be legal in your neck of the woods, though.
