I spotted this axle in a pile of scrap. But then I realised it had alloy drums. It's really old. Any help identifying it would be appreciated.

I spotted this axle in a pile of scrap. But then I realised it had alloy drums. It's really old. Any help identifying it would be appreciated. Looks like it's been used for a trailer, due to the steering link being welded to the casing... What diameter were the wheels? Guessing 18" / 19"? If so, then certainly prewar, and the alloy drums suggest something interesting. Unusual hubs though - no ears on the spinners. Tubular axle is unusual too - most were forged, so that should all be enough for it to be identified. If it is available, it would be worth sending in the pics etc to The Automobile magazine. Kev - your's looks like it is off a Ford Pop.

The rear axle is a small Ford from somewhere between 1937 and 1959.
