While endless sanding iam already thinking about the next project. Will be something for the MX5 NC A lot of people think its the worst car of the MX5 Line, in my opinion its a more refined car, with little things like changing suspension and other setup for the wheels it will have the same feedback on the street like the NA and the NB, in real the weight penalty is not that big with the 160 HP , little tuning you will see 200-260 HP, so it will be more agile and a makes a lot of fun. I will go back to the roots, so a body inspired from the Lotus Elan will be my target, again not a replica but a nice classic body with little restomod items. The Team designed the MX5 in the past had 2 Elan for checking the best handling cars to compare. If you think a MX5 is a little tiny car you should see the Elan, side by side for the back i already have some ideas i photoshoped as a base, a classic rearend but could be a new car as well for first trail its not that bad, think it has something already collecting different ideas to mix and modify again a harmonic shape, like the vents in the front hood, so maybe i will do something similar only the name is fixed till now , it will be the CB5 Sprint

lovely, you are doing great work
Might be an opportunity to improve the aero a little too

the front should be something like the Chinese Eye Version from the Elan, , round headlights but more modern, will integrate some kind of bumpers to get the feeling from .when blowing up the design it will look more like a real car, still small for today the proportions are perfect for a MX5 rebody, and for me a NC with classic character would be a perfect fun car.

Today i had a lot of luck. While working on the lower area and the wheelarch i was most of the time under my car. To get more space to work i lifted the car and removed the wheel to work more comfortable inside the arches. To save time i didnt use stands (normaly allways, but for 20 minutes......) so the car crashed down to the floor while i was working under it. My exhaust dummy stopped the car so i had time and space to get my arm and head out without touching me. You had a lucky escape!! Are you going to support it on axle stands from now on?

Normally always! Stupid idea for only a couple of minutes nothing will happen.... Lesson learned

Shaping is going on, coming closer to the design i want last details with visible defects will be prepaired sometimes i think i must be trunken when decided to usr that kind of rear lights, but will look nice when finished now its already hard to see defects like high and low spots, so i started with graphite powder to find them <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> Again filling and sanding, but its going tb be finished soon

Thanks, its funny, i was dreaming doing that since years. Designing a car in that way i like, without compromise only for me. I never trusted my skills, not able to do nice drawings, reason starting to try was my company iam working since 15 years. Iam a process engineer working for Automotive. When a new car from Porsche or BMW is going to be produced and there are problems with production or quality iam flying over to the production company solving the problem. Saving money my company kicked me out trying to work with younger cheaper people , i was the last "old guy" with 55 in a team where the average age was going down every year closer to 22 years.
So i took that brake as a chance to spend time to work on my dreams.
To be honest i was and i am still surprised about so much positive feedback.

Just because I am not clear on this...Are you building a plug on a Miata chassis or is this going to be the finished car?
|
|
|
|
|
|
|
Its the plug for my body. Based on a MX5 MK2 NBFL. From the plug will be made a mould to produce the real body. Because of the regulations here in Germany its the only way to make a new body legal without going to fulfill all tests a new car has to have. So as long as no changes are done on the chassis, no cutting from original body it will be legal registered as a bodykit, like a spoiler, otherwise it has to fulfill a crashtest!
So my biggest problem designing the new shape are the rear wings which are welded on the chassis from all MX5 If they are fixed with screws like BMW did with the Z3 or Z4 the rear fender could be removed and don't belong to the chassis.
The reason i use the MX5 is because its the last car small enough to use a classic design with out looking strange, so from physical size its perfect. The handling is superb , which cant be told from most vintage cars compared to today cars. its reliable , easy to tune to 250-350 HP with a weight a little over 1000 kg, and at last they are cheap and lots of good ones available.
So at the end i will have a perfect vintage car, with the right optic and feeling without breaking my bank, a handling i can only dream about and because the donor is trouble free i can drive without thinking even after long time store in the garage.

In Germany we call it " Eier legende Wollmilch Sau " try to translate this, means you have everything in one. Had 3 Etypes in my live, iam still in love looking at my last one in the garage. But when driving around its not as nice as it looks. Ok its 60 years old now, so it cant, but there are always small tiny parts telling you 60 years are enough , mostly when you are far from home.. I know some will kill me now, but i like to drive, having fun on the street, thats my reason to buy a nice looking car, don't want to think what will break next. So for me it would be the best to do like a guy did on the picture, he is able to enjoy his E-type every day even without going in the garage.... if i would have space and money i would buy a second one, starting every morning with a big smile in my face.....

An excellent use for a Series 2 / 3 (think it's a 3, as that looks like a V12 badge on the boot) - the awful rear tail lights are now out of sight!!

Bad guy But feeling the same, best looking was Series 1, maybe 1 1/2 was ok for me, having still the old nice tail lamps.
Only the light is for nothing in the night, guess its a Series 3 too, because of the deep windscreen with only 2 wipers. The doors look to long to be a early one.

working on the surface now, the added lightline on the rear wing is coming nice The lightline follows the door now perfect, this line and the flat curve of the rear wing looks much better now still working on the shape of the tail lights, nearly how i want them now

Started to work on a kind of diffusor, nothing big, more decent but the car needs some nice lower rear end.
For a Restomod i think its a must have, have been thinking a lot, every trial till now was looking a little to much, so next trial with a decent version, more a lip than a real diffusor.
Lets see if i will like it now, lets see what others will say. Everybody i told about said better you don't to it.
In a couple of days i can share a picture, anyway i have to repair my destroyed lower rear end
