Still tinkering here slowly improving things. Changed the timing chain, tensioner and guides which has cured the last of the engine bay rattles! Changed the Momo for a Mountney because as lovely as the Momo is, it just didn’t suit the Sprint for me. The Mountney looks more in keeping in my humble opinion.

Next job is to raise the ride height a little more. I’m bored of whacking the subframe now. I’m too long in the tooth to be bracing every time I spy a pothole or speed bump looming. This time I’m going to have a go at adjusting the camber which accordingly to my cheapo gauge is at 3 gpdegrees negative. It’s should be more like 0 so I guess that’s partly the reason for heavy ish steering. It’s not that bad but could be better............

Well I finally admitted defeat and raised the ride height a little more. I just couldn’t go on whacking the subframe like I was. The days of preparing myself by gripping the wheel and bracing for every manhole are gone. Ive now got the tracking spot on, and camber at one degree negative. The car drives so much better! I’ve also fiddled with the shock settings, and have them firmish, but a lot more compliant than they were. The steering could still be a little sharper I reckon, so I’m going to do away with the rubber bushed steering coupling and fit a solid one. Already have poly rack mounts. I just fitted new front wheel bearings, which was a nice little satisfying Sunday morning job. The car is running sweet and drives really well. I haven’t driven it much though, what with the salt on the roads at the moment. Its only my unprotected alloys that bothers me. The rest of the car is slathered in cavity wax and under seal, so should be fine. I really need some winter wheels and have been looking out for something. Lack of spare cash is the enemy as usual but something will turn up. I'm genuinely surprised with how well the car is driving. These Triumphs are so underrated. The BL stigma I guess.

Would look great on some gold (bronze?) 14s with 50 profile rubber, or similar.

Would look great on some gold (bronze?) 14s with 50 profile rubber, or similar. Agreed! A dark gold / bronze would be cool. I would also need to change the side stripe to gold too. My ocd wouldn’t handle gold rims and a silver side stripe! There’s another Russet brown Dolomite on this forum somewhere with gold revolutions. Very nice indeed. The PCD makes finding wheels for the Dolly a bit difficult though. They are out there, but I never seem to have any spare cash when a set pops up on eBay or whatever. I’m dreaming of rims, Webber’s, fast road cam, & vernier timing gear, but two teenage daughters means I never have any spare cash these days! Bless em. For now I will just concentrate on keeping the car alive. This one is a keeper, so a few modifications will come one day. Thanks to all for the kind words.

Looking good! I rather like a 'purposeful' stance. Not quite rally car jacked up, but enough height that it looks like it could hammer down a slightly rough country lane without getting flustered. Seeing as I live in Kent, the best I can hope for is a slightly rough country lane!

great thread! turns out there's a fair few dollies on RR ride height-wise, Dolomites don't enjoy being too low down as it messes with the rollcentre. more than an inch or two below standard and you will start to note that it becomes very nervous at the rear. looking forward to reading and seeing more! Cheers, Pete

Seeing as I live in Kent, the best I can hope for is a slightly rough country lane! Thank you! I too am a Kentish man, or is that a man of Kent? I don’t know. But i do know that most of the roads round here are rough! Hence the slight lift. I think it’s there now. I haven’t whacked the subframe for ages. 👍🏻

No idea if these might be easy to collect for you ? James Thanks for the link James, appreciated. I’m looking to pick up some 5.5 inch wide steelies from a TR7 or Morris Marina. They are basically the same wheel. They will be perfect for the winter. There’s a few sets on eBay, and they’re cheap, which is good. But, they are too far from me to collect. Just got to wait for some to turn up nearer to Kent. There’s no rush.

Cheers, Pete Thanks Pete. Although I thought you may have seen it all already on TDC. 😀 Agreed on the ride height regarding handling. When the car was at its lowest I would have described the handling as twitchy. It’s a bit more assured now. It can still feel a bit unsettled mid corner on rough roads, but I’m told that’s a Dolomite thing!?

Mid-corner instability, coupled with teenage overconfidence, is the reason why my mate Richie wrote off two Dolly Sprints in pretty quick succession in 1986. if you look closely you can still see the huge vee of "new" bricks in the wall halfway down Gravel Hill going out of Bexleyheath towards the Black Prince where the green one met its end...
