That would be fun... I might have to make mine a Lightning... To me, the Lightning, the Spitfire, and the Bugatti 100 are probably the most beautiful planes ever made. And the GeeBee the craziest Hot Rod...

And the GeeBee the craziest Hot Rod... That would be awesome, they are the best projects in between projects. Half the fun is researching the the small details and period correct markings. The best man cave addition too if you get the correct lights and landing gear.

You are obviously very serious model building and car building. So you might like this... I was at a LA Roadstershow years ago, and parked next to my car was a older guy who sold models of Bonneville land speed racers. They looked like they were cast out of aluminum, beautiful, very accurate, about a foot to a 1.5 Ft long and highly polished. I later found out the guy was Jocko Johnson. Who also built this. If I'd known who he was, I'd bent his ear about that car... www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/jocko-fuel-streamliner-aluminum-model-1849393301

I love looking at the old photos of builds like this, they were truly craftsman’s at their trade which is a dying art. What you can do with metal is only limited to your imagination 👍 This is one of my favourite photos as a point in time, amazing but achievable.

This pic is cool too. The treestump they used at Ghia Aigle coachbuilders, to build a Alfa Romeo body.

And then there were two, Just need to do the rear leading seam and then the long progress of unstitching the rotten metal replacing with the fresh new metal.

Some top metalwork on this thread. Can I ask, re: the treestump....surely they didn´t just use a treestump? Like you´d need an English wheel or a planishing hammer to get the dents out of the metal afterwards, or?

Like you´d need an English wheel or a planishing hammer to get the dents out of the metal afterwards, or? Wood is an essential part of my tool kit, be it a stump or a length of hard wood. It’s great for the tricky intricate small stuff or ruffing out a larger piece, you make a buck out of it and gently hammer away. I used this piece of hardwood to create this panel, This is the only photo I have of the piece of wood when I started but it’s been cut down and has now disintegrated 😂. It was 1.5 metres long. On larger panels an English wheel or planishing hammer would be used to for the final finish. But all the tricky small stuff wood is brilliant, I tend to go through a fair bit of it as it gets cut down to suit each panel.

Hot tip, literally. Don’t let your wedding ring touch the metal you are welding, especially if it’s sweaty. curse word zapped me good 🤣

That is a like for the tip, not the outcome Was there a rule that there is no left hand drive vehicles in Australia? Or us that only for new vehicle sales? (Or made up in my mind)

(Or made up in my mind) We thankful have a legislation that if the car is 25 years old and you have import approval form the transport authority, which my car has you can register a LHD car. It’s a piece of paper with the government approval number and the corresponding VIN that is locked away for when I’m ready for registration or MOT for you guys. It’s something I don’t want to lose, lucky mine was imported by a reputable dealer with all the appropriate approvals for registration. And we don’t have to have a LHD vehicle notification plastered on the back of the car. Being a Sunday, there must of been a car show that I missed and we literally passed about 5 LHD mustangs today so it’s quite common.

I’ve seen some horrendous injuries because of rings. I’d never wear one. I couldn’t even tell you where my wedding ring was. When my wife bought it I told her to buy the cheapest thing she could find as I’d not wear it. She’s still not really happy with it I don’t think.

My worst worry about dying is my wife selling my stuff for what I told her it cost...

glenanderson , same here. I've seen a driver of a big rig truck snag his ring on the side of the bed when he jumped off it. That was enough to make your stomach turn. When I explained it to my wife about that I think she understood ( kinda...) I've made some painful mistakes in the past, like that time I shorted out a car battery with the metal band on my watch. ( stopped wearing a a watch too)

Yeah. Don’t Google “de-gloving” unless you have a strong stomach.
Getting a ring caught as you jump down from something is pretty common.

After Googling it I came out pretty good 👍

Hands up who’s has a wire wheel on a drill get caught in your jumper, roll up and smack you in the face. Or is that just me 😂

And then there are welding flash burns, setting your clothes on fire, various cuts and smashing of fingers. Maybe I should have gone into collecting post stamps, but I guess you still could get papercuts...
