slipngripross you most certainly have a very eclectic choice of motor vehicles; I also am fascinated by Unimogs, in their many guises. With regards to the 'Ag specification' I think that that basically means that, at this moment in time, you have a tractor on your hands. www.gov.uk/government/publications/unimogs/unimogs would appear to have a simplistic explanation re this type of vehicle; although I have no doubt you may well have already been using the Internet to establish how you can use the vehicle. Unfortunately my understanding is that the dreaded DVLA have to be involved in reclassification of the vehicle, if that is the route you choose to go; best of luck with that one. Hopefully you will continue to post whatever progress you make with this beast, both mechanical and the legalities of being able drive it, etc...

I've seen a few rolled Mogs - and they aren't pretty. I'm not saying don't fit one, just do your research, and make one suitable for a Mog and not a race car. I used to follow Euro Truck Trialing back in the day. They ended up with cages that pivoted on the bumper. That is almost certainly way more than you want or need, but worth doing some research before reaching for the tube bender. 406's Rock

Love these things, my Dad had one of the square body ones when I was younger. U1300 or something. Fitted a fence post knocker to the front of it, that nearly smashed a mate of his hand. He put his hand on the top of the post as my dad pressed the button to bring the weight crashing down. Pressed the button to top immediately as the weight lightly kissed his mates hand. No injuries. I jumped out of the back of it once, and immediately regretted my decision. It was a long way down. Also, he decided that taking my little brother to school in it once would be a great idea down some little terraced streets. I think about 4 cars got his insurance details on that trip. Wheelnuts sticking out from the wheels made some pretty patterns on car doors.

This is every bit of superb I don't think there's anything as exciting as firing up a long-dormant purchase. Well done!

Makes a nice noise......
Merc’s 5.7L 353 isn’t exactly a powerhouse though is it? 70 or 80 bhp dependent on exact version.... though apparently if you up the power you need a stronger clutch and gearbox....

Yea they are only just under 100bhp but 300NM of torque which is what its designed around really. She will be lucky to do 50mph on the road but it will mainly be used for trails.

You can usually get them re-lined for a reasonable price if the metalwork is OK.

How heavy are these? I assume you need a larger jack and axle stands?

I once went on a night out in Leeds and it snowed, so I decided it was time to buy a unimog. Jumped on ebay, very drunk, and the cheapest one was about 15k or something daft and looked like a wreck. Drunk me is a genius however, and went on ebay.de because there's more of them in Germany obviously, and the first I knew that I had bid thousands of pounds on a unimog hundreds of miles away was an email to say I was outbid with an hour to go! Probably dodged a bullet there, but I still have much want, and this looks mega!
