My old colleague had a 4.0l sport x308 on a 98 plate. She was 5ft nothing and could barely see over the bonnet. I loved that car and it had me dreaming of one for a long time, I drove it a few times and couldn't get over just how luxurious it felt!
Yours looks gorgeous, a bit of cleaning and fettling and that'll be a great car!

Cheers man - it really is. Quite proud of myself as I went to look at a right shitter the week before and I was so tempted to buy it. You wouldn't believe the self restraint!

Yours looks gorgeous, a bit of cleaning and fettling and that'll be a great car! They really are such great cars - I I've had an X300 Sport, an X308 XJR, an X350 XJ8 and now this X308 XJ8. You can't beat the feeling of an old XJ. I ran an LS400 for 2 years and it was undoubtedly a 'better' car but I'd take an XJ every day of the week. Every drive feels like an event and, in my opinion, the design is just beautiful - timeless even. I wanted the X300 because I prefer the interior as it has larger slabs of wood on the doors instead of the tear drop style this has but getting behind the wheel of this just made that idea float away. Love everything about the interior - from the design of the clock and the copious wood to the sunken gauges and the stitched leather. Can't wait to tinker and tidy it up more 😎

I miss my Jag. They make every outing seem like an occasion. That looks like a cracker. They definately do! I'm loving my commute 😎 It's funny - my 530d Sport encouraged me to overtake on the motorway but this makes me pull in and cruise. I just want to be in it for longer - it's such a nice place to be!

Watched a 'welcome to your new Jaguar XJ' vhs on YouTube and learned a few new tricks. Turns out it's got power mirrors 👍 although only one worked. I gave the driver's one a tap and saw it was trying to move but couldn't. A few wiggles and it was doing slightly better so I assisted it in and out about 10-15 times and she was ALIVE! Bonus!😎 I assume the previous owner didn't realise or didn't use them and they'd become sticky/siezed.
Chalking that down to the first fix! Hopefully they'll all be that easy 😂
The other bit of progress is I managed a small amount of fault finding on the driver's seat heater. Switch works and so does the relay under the seat. I can't see any obviously broken wires underneath which, after a bit of research, suggests it could be the electronic thermostat under the seat base cover. Let me know if you know of any other possibilities before I go looking for that as it involves removing the cover a bit.

Update - mirror still stuck 😂 think it needs some good old lube.
General plans with this are to tidy up the body work and repair anything that's not working then at some point a nice set of wheels, possibly a subtle lowering if I can do that without sacrificing the ride, and a subtle exhaust note increase without losing the 'grace' of grace, pace, and space. I'm wanting to keep the feel of the car but with added oof. I'm in no rush either - happy for a slow burner now I've found one I'm really happy with.

I'm absolutely loving commuting in this - such a comfy, lovely place to be. Heaters are warm in about a minute and it's just class. It's definately thirstier than the LS400 which is strange. Ls400 is heavier with bigger engine and about 70bhp more yet didn't drink as much.. Toyota vs Jaguar I guess!
Regardless - I'm loving it. Found some stainless straight exhaust pipes that replace the back boxes but they want 200 quid. Feels about 50 quid too much but I think I'll get them shortly. I don't want it too loud (I know, I know) as I want to keep the feel of the car but I want to release the V8 growl from its cage. It is a Jaguar after all.. It should have a growl!
I managed to fix the lumbar support by playing with the plugs under the seat but no luck with the seat heater. I'll check fuses next but as the button lights up and the relay clicks I can't imagine a fuse is gone. I suppose I need to use the multi meter on the relay outputs? Although I don't know what I'm looking for 😂 apparently there's a thermostat of some description under the leather?

That's a little lovely car, I had a few of the modern S Types (including a 400BHP type R) and they were just great to drive.
I now have a 1.4 fiesta, how the mighty are fallen!

If it's the pipes from simply performance your looking at I had a set briefly on my XJ6, They are sat on my shelf in the garage as I'm putting the car back to stock. If you want You can have them for £100 plus whatever postage is? Or you can pick them up in a socially distanced responsible way if you prefer.

You might need to buy bigger tips as I had to but maybe the V8 has a larger diameter tip from stock?
