modelled up a quick bracket lunch time to hold the bearing for the steering, will bolt up to the back of the front suspension as I handily put some 12mm holes in it, just need to screw cut some bar to screw in the back and a nut to lock it all in place and this can give it some adjustment

Great read. You have some great skills and access to some great kit too. Like the way this build is going and it's given me some inspiration to crack on with my long overdue project

Like the way this build is going and it's given me some inspiration to crack on with my long overdue project I'm so happy you can take some inspiration from my build , I find it's a lot of up a down with big projects, sometimes you just need something to push you or maybe just do something else on the project for a change, like wiring with me instead of welding, I used to watch a Petrolicious video of a Datsun 240z every time I got fed up with my 240z project , must of watched it a hundred times, Managed to get the screw cutting done today will tack it together tomorrow and see if it's all smooth

started making up the loom for the headlights today , I'm gonna use the marker lights on top of the wings as the front indicators I reckon and change out the orange bulbs for some white ones, from what i remember you cant use orange on the front facing lights ? but the roof lights are orange anyways, So maybe I just imagined it?

I think you have to have white side (think marker might be the correct term) lights to pass MOT but additional lights in orange are ok. Could use the original side lights under the headlights for this or even as a DLR with a suitable 21w equivalent LED white bulb ? Have the headlights got indicator sides etc all built in ? Coming on really well, pro level build from where I’m sitting for sure. Enjoying just watching the journey. James

thanks James, I don't know about Pro but I'm trying .
The head lights have a halo side light, but no indicator. so I'm gonna use them and the original ones underneath, I have ordered some white LED bulbs for them , see how it looks.

Marker lights became mandatory after sometime in the 80's I got caught out on this when fitting older second hand wings without the to my 87 range rover.

Marker lights became mandatory after sometime in the 80's I got caught out on this when fitting older second hand wings without the to my 87 range rover. No, that's turn signal repeaters. White side lights, orange indicators to the front, post 1965. Slightly gray in the term, but a vehicle "first used in the road" pre- September 1st 1965 can dispense with the orange altogether and just run white side with white indicator in the same lamp housing. Ditto red/red to the rear. If it's issued an age-related plate for '54 then you can pass with the American light fixtures. You are allowed orange lights all the way down the side of the vehicle. You have the option for them to flash when the indicators are switched on that side, but they must be in phase with the indicators (ie not wired from indicator+ to side+ so when the indicator is on the side markers are off). You may have red to the side behind the rearmost wheel as the last lamp but orange is recommended to the side.

Cheers PhilA
I was gonna use the red rears as indicators but thought against it, I'm going to use Orange in the bed ends as most people these days wouldn't think I was indicating if they were red ,

I seem to remember there was somewhere doing Green LED bulbs that flashed orange when fitted inside a red lens.

I seem to remember there was somewhere doing Green LED bulbs that flashed orange when fitted inside a red lens. Tried it, just looks dim and dirty red-ish with fully dye mixed red PMMA lenses. It all depends upon the thickness of the red- if the lens itself is all orange with a red lacquer it kinda works. But, overall, no. Phil

I have Amber LED bulb replacements in my rear light clusters. But the difference there may be that mine are amber lenses, sprayed with red lens tint spray Also, isnt there some silliness about having either all amber indicators, or white front with red rear? (And yes, I know the cut off year is 1965 for MOT purposes, but I've no idea what category or fun and games this CoE build is aiming for)

Before then the front and rear lighting regs weren't unified so you can technically mix and match so long as the individual requirements are met.

Made another dash panel this morning with the gauge holes moved to a better location, thought I'd have a go at a turned finish, like you had back in the day, So I turned a bit of ally down and cut up a scotch pad I had lying round, a bit of super duper glue and some WD-40 on the plate, a pillar drill and it looks ok,

forgot i took this to work last week and TiG'd it all up , looks like it does the trick , need to beef up the rack mounts next as i made them thin to bend them into the right shape , and stick some gussets on there , my mate next door pulled this out of his unit , to be honest i forgot he had it as he's only used it once or twice , pretty RaD though took it up and down the road , doesn't drive that low though unfortunately also thought about getting a Flying B for the bonnet as its already got a hole in there , or maybe one of those 50's fly deflector kool things , the flying b's don't come cheap so thought I could make one instead , went though the scrap bin and found some 3mm 304 offcuts cut out 2 and then bumped them on the folder , TiG'd them together bit of filling and polishing and came out like this , Not a B but looks like the PLayer's logo , which would be pretty kool for the show I reckon I have also ordered some more bits from the states today an interior light, starter button and some little clips etc just to finish things off in the cab properly
