Absolutely magnificent! Love the look of these but wil sadly never afford one... 400+ plus hours in the bodywork is insane (although it clearly shows)!! I darent even comprehend what that cost Amazing! Thanks. You could probably still pick up a project for not too much, but they hardly ever come up now in the UK. I certainly don't have another paint job planned for the car in my time!

Yo Dom. I've got a feeling we might have met at some exile meets possibly? I remember you having a series 2 or 3 Rx7?
Anyway.. Fantastic resto on this. If I was still in the UK and still had my Rx3 coupe it would have been neat to line them up together - so bright are the colours.
Now its time for my bit of criticism... Those red msd coils just look so wrong in that engine bay. I'd be painting them black so they look like the originals and blend in.
Otherwise wow. Just wow. What a lovely car!
Alex.

I wouldn’t have the balls to put an engine in like that 🤣. Engine in first, then gearbox in after for me. I would be petrified to put an engine in at that angle 🤣🤣🤣

The radiator reservoir tank had yellowed quite a bit with age. No end of scrubbing or cleaning would seem to touch it so had a go with the "retrobrite" method which is basically covering the object in peroxide (hair bleach gel) and leaving it in the sun in a sealed container. Worked quite well. Bracket and cap were restored too. That's a great tip - mine are suffering a similar yellowing fate so might have to have a go at this... given I am of the follically challenged persuasion purchasing the peroxide should raise a smile or two. Fair play for putting the engine in like that too... rather you than me!

Made up new fuel lines. Thanks to my mate Kelly for lending me his lines as a template as the old lines got binned during paint. Kelly doesn't live Somerset way does he ? If so have met him and his RX when buying some wheels for the old daily. Nice bloke if so. James

Ah yes, good times. I remember you and Hannah. I bet you had epic trips in that Bedford truck camper you built. When you and your coupe left the UK the old school rotor scene shrank by 20% Then Hayden went and sold his white Rx3 coupe. The coils do stand out a bit don't they. Leave that one with me!

The tilter bar is a great bit of kit, you have full control of the angle. The main issue was my engine hoist started losing pressure which led to the job taking rather less time that I planned! I can't do gearbox last as my car scissor lift prevents access. Whatever you do don't try and install one onto a gearbox already in the car, sure way to damage the pilot bearing.

The pro method is to build a sealed UV enclosure with proper black lights. The peroxide + heat + UV makes the reaction happen. Loads of youtube vids on it.

I think possibly just a bit too 'exclusive' for what is still a small scene in the UK. Hayden has been super quiet back in NZ too. I've not heard from him in ages. Maybe next time we are over there could be a meetup bbq/beers at Eras with a few oldschool rotors.

Exile just felt like a club of mates to me, rather than a car forum. Whilst it was nice to be included/invited I always felt slightly on the outside of it all!

Bro, I forgot how nicely those badges came out aye! I actually drove down past your way on Saturday. To go and see Tim/Chud/Captainbizzaro. I nearly gave you a shout, but had a long day ahead haha. I was fairly new to Exile when it all closed up. But always keen to meet up with people if something happens in the future! Dom might even make it to a RRG in the 3 one day

Got the dash back in which was a job i was dreading but actually took no time. Also wired up my magic mirror. It's made by Zada Tech down on the south coast. Means I can keep all the original instruments and not have to mess with the dashboard to have the additional gauges you really need for running these engines safely and reliably. They are custom made based on the readings you ask for and the brain box can control relays and alarms so I have it controlling when the electric fan turns on and off and also have threshold limits on all the readings so that an LED alarm flashes if anything gets out of safe operating limits. I haven't connected up the AFR yet but have an AFR port on each header so when I get it on the rolling road both rotors can be tuned for peak performance.

I know, but the want is strong! What a fantastic build and, even better, I now know what Bridgeporting is!

I know, but the want is strong! What a fantastic build and, even better, I now know what Bridgeporting is! Thanks. I probably didn't mention it earlier but there are 2 main types of bridgeporting too. Full bridge and half bridge. Full bridge has all the intake ports bridgeported and half bridge just has the end plate intakes (primaries) ported but not the centre plate intakes (secondaries). Half bridge gives better driveability at low speeds, full bridge gives more power up top but less driveability at low speeds and more BRAP! This one is a full bridge.

I would be petrified to put an engine in at that angle 🤣🤣🤣 I've done it loads of times with big sixes - front up on axle stands and it's like dropping a pencil vertically like a dart into a bucket With gearbox in place you have very little clearance to play with it's like dropping a pencil horizontally into a bucket only just wide enough - you frequently hit the sides
