Guilty of mud flap abuse here!
Still got the scar on my knee from inadvertently changing into neutral when I stood up to pedal the Grifter...
Damn twist grip gear change!

Last week I saw a local kid, about 15 or so, on a grifter with a small petrol engine fitted. Thought it was odd, in this day and age, to even see a grifter, let alone a powered one, and ridden by a kid! I can only assume his dad is a fan or old Raleighs. My 7 and 10 year old ride Choppers as their main bikes, ok they're the 2004 ones but still get looks and comments, cos I'm the weird dad that likes old chod

Yep me to Raleigh Grifter mk1 with no rear mudgaurd brought second hand and before that the Raleigh Boxer in light blue with the half rear mudguard loved that bike i must have got it for 6th or 7th birthday and that started it all wheelies and jumps and endless days across the fields Ah, the Grifter ... memories, like the corners of my mind ... I had a Raleigh Commando too. I think they were really just a Raleigh Twenty but styled more for boys. You could get them with camouflage paint, though mine was just the standard black frame. If you think a Grifter was heavy, track down a Commando and try doing a wheelie ... amazing thing though, absolutely indestructible.
