It’s not just government workers that are still working you know! A house near me left three VW T5 steel wheels out for the scrap man at the weekend, they were gone next time I went back. I remember finding half a rusted away Morris 1100 in Llandrindod Wells in 1998, I’ve still got the original reg plate with plastic 3D letters in my collection.

Isn’t there supposed to be a beach in the West Country with a load of Americana military stuff buried afte the last war? Something about them Not bothering about taking it home? Or is that all the cheese I ate last night? Guess if it’s beach fodder there’s nothing left now anyway 😟 Hi, Yes that was Operation Tiger, rehearsal for the D Day landings which all went horribly wrong costing many lives. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exercise_Tiger Colin I’m not sure that’s the same one, the story I heard was about a pit being dug, vehicles driven into it and the whole lot buried once the war had finished, since the Americans didn’t want to repatriate their vehicles? I have read a little bit about the slapton sands events, and Jack Higgins wrote a fictional thriller about it too Thanks anyway colnerov

I know a few places like this were there is stuff buried, including pre-war stuff. Now that does sound interesting! I’m always out in fields with work, and it amazes me how far away from the road stuff can end up. Found a plastic wing liner, front indicator and anti roll bar in the corner of one field. Cv joint and drive shaft that looked like it had just popped right out half way round a corner, up against a gate post. Hubcaps are always found.

Once you start getting into military stuff literally every base in the country has stuff buried on it. I know of one in Lincolnshire that has proportedly got 40-60 GPWs in a big hole in the middle of it, but the current landowner won’t let anyone dig, even with quite large sums of money being discussed. Tbh our soils over here would probably mean a lot of stuff would be beyond redemption anyway. This came off a RAF base in north norfolk, dug up out of a copse along with a string of landing lights and a few other things. Genuine B-24 liberator pilot/copilot seat.

I might go back once we’re all allowed out to play again. I had been told there was a split-oval bug in there bit it turned out to be a mangled later one, all the other stuff we found was British stuff so I wasn’t that interested. There is the possibility that’s there’s an Austin 7 or two though so they’d be worth salvaging.

There is the possibility that’s there’s an Austin 7 or two though so they’d be worth salvaging. My college teacher once said his friend owned a farm next to a scrapyard. When they used to plough up the land, the plough would snag and the tractor gets pulled around. Apparently they investigated and found a load of old buried cars that the previous owners would get from the scrapyard, race around and then just bury when they were done with them. Not sure what the end plan was. Like the idea of an Austin 7, highly doubt I’d fit. Anyway until I do find some more stuff, here’s one I found earlier.

Anyone remember the British bomber( can’t remember the model) lifted out of Loch Ness a few years ago? The wing lights still worked, now that’s proper engineering!

I can remember as a child we went on a long countryside walk with church, the entire walk was littered with abaonded car's - some still complete to one that looked like it had fallen out of a plane. I will ask my mum next time I speak to her where ut was! - this is probably 30 years ago now lol.

Roof / rear body remnant looks like it's an early(ish - before the back window was enlarged) Morris Minor.

Hi, That's not a Riley RM roof, wrong type of construction. Riley roof was a timber frame, perforated mesh type steel skin, then wadding and hessian, topped off with a Vinyl covering. Colin

^^^ Indeed - definately not any kind of Riley. It's not a Jag Mk7 either (which was actually my first thought), due to the raised moulding around the base of the roof, and the fuel filler type & position. The Jag had a recessed filler under a flap, up by the base of the roof. What is visible of the remains of the front bulkhead also match the Minor's engine bay.

There's a P38 Lightning that keeps being buried and uncovered off a beach in Wales IIRC? Nicknamed the Maid of Harlech. I read about it last year when it got protected status. I've been to the tank memorial at Slapton Sands. Very moving indeed.

There’s what’s left of two covernantor(sp?) tanks not far from me on the beach at Titchwell, only visible at low tide Not much left either, they were used as target practice

Roof / rear body remnant looks like it's an early(ish - before the back window was enlarged) Morris Minor. That would be correct! Was a split screen four door with ‘cheese grater’ grill, which I think means it was a sidevalve car.

Apparently we went on the North Yorkshire Moors railway & had to get off early because it was too dry - so we had a long walk to where we were going, so possibly in/near Pickering - there were loads of car's though.
