I find this truly fascinating, I've taken to watching a merkin chopping cars on YouTube, I watch thinking thats not going to look right or how's that going to work. Amazing what can be achieved with by someone with the right eye and the metal working skills.
Are we due an update here Dez?

legend a personal favourite of mine has always been the round door Bugatti. Streamlined but angular Art Deco at the same time. I even pressed some designs restyling the Citroen c4(1930s one!) I had A while back with that as an influence.

Personally I feel as if Dez should give up the cuffed jeans and rock the tweed and plus 4's.... P. Plus 4s are definatley due a revival. I’m from Yorkshire so tweed never went away 🤣

I’ve not even bought anything else for it! The ‘fleet’ thread I’ve started will explain more.

HOLD THE MOTHERFKIN PHONES! I (accidentally) did something on this. Whist sorting other parts into keep/sell/bin categories, I refound the mangled slam panel. I’d been looking a buying a replacement from the states, but couldn’t stomach paying £150-200 the Yankee Doodle eBay sellers wanted for one, when I was probably going to have to modify it anyway. I found a slightly bent one for under £100, but on comparison it wasn’t much better than my fire mangled one. So I decided to jump up and down on my one a bit and see what happened. This is how bad it was. With some reference pics from the aforementioned eBay listings to hand, I did most of the rough shaping with a rubber mallet to reduce tool marks, then moved onto a body hammer and various dollies for the finer dressing. After a lot less time than I thought, I had this- Seriously, that’s the same panel! I can hardly believe it either and it was me knocking it about. Bouyed on by this, you can see I found the bonnet latch and fitted that too. Well, actually I spent ages going through boxes looking for it to go off to be sandblasted, to then find it inside the car, already sandblasted and painted 🙄🤣 I gave it some lube on the mech, and replaced the spring for one that hasn’t been set on fire, so is still springy. I tapped out the captive nuts, amazingly only one was damaged and I found a square 1/4”UNC nut to replace it. The captives are little welded in cages with a square nut inside so easy to fix. Here I’m pointing at why there isn’t a fourth one here. A message to craigrk to check on his ‘reference car’ what was going on, and my suspicions were confirmed. It bolts through into an additional brace, which I am missing. That’ll all be made up differently on mine though because of the grille swap, so isn’t really a problem. Still, feels good to make some progress on it as it’s been tucked away at the storage end of the workshop for ages now. I need to order some new spire nuts to attach it and I’ll get it blasted and primed, and that’s another problem ticked off.

If it was anyone else I'd accuse you of fibbing and buying a replacement panel. That barely looks like the same panel. Quick splosh of paint and you'd never know it had been on fire.

So rewarding when you get these little wins, non of which are little.
Looking great, was talking to Craig last night and he mentioned this.
Pretty cool when your have the ability to reference remotely.
My mate Martin references my C10 regularly.

It’s just so much easier when someone can tell you what it’s supposed to look like, how it fits together, and if I have bits missing or not.

Annealed metal is so much nicer to work with. But seriously, great work man... Really no effort at all to hammer compared to ‘normal’ steel. But then most people who don’t do a lot of metalwork don’t realise how incredibly pre-stressed most production car panels actually are.
