Hello,
I introduce to you; the only alfa giulia with a 2.4 jtd engine fitted. 😊
It's my daily driver since i got it past our inspection so it's a legal conversion over here. It's got a 100 kw 5 pot on diesel in the papers now.
Engine should be good for about 180/190 bhp with 400nm. Car weighs 1070 kg with 1 /2 a tank. Performance is pretty good, it's faster then most business cars on the road. 😅
Engine and harness out off an 156. Adapterplate for omega gearbox. Custom propshaft. Renault radiator, volvo intercooler, custom sump, custom inlet, custom exhaustmanifold with turbo from a 20v jtd modified to work on boost instead of vacuum, cold air intake, bmw e30 thermostat, volvo vacuumpump for brakes, golf mk2 booster and mastercylinder, modified spindles up front with bmw e36 hubs and brakes, thick custom antirollbar with uniballs, modified steeringarms, old mini headlights, 156 clocks in original dash, modified gearbox tunnel, custom rear axle, e30 trailing arms modified with alfa spring pans, mercedes 500sl springs, koni yellow shocks, e28 hubs and shortened drive shafts, e36 diff in custom cradle, e28 discs with golf mk4 callipers, golf mk2 handbrake cables, clio 16v wheelbearing, tank modified with 156 lift pump, new fuel and brake lines, open exhaust, kadett rear lights, no bumpers, and probably some other stuff....

At the moment i'm looking into a strange vibration in the driveline. Over the winter i'm going to fit a newer 20v jtd engine to get more power... 260-270bhp with about 600nm should make it plenty fast. 😊
Will need to change a lot to make it fit but i'll manage.

I had that engine in my 159, was lovely for a diesel and moved that car pretty well - yours probably weighs half as much!

This is ace. How did you modify your turbo VNT control to work with boost? I've been trying a few different mechanical methods out recently and none seem to be perfect yet.

This is ace. How did you modify your turbo VNT control to work with boost? I've been trying a few different mechanical methods out recently and none seem to be perfect yet. The original 10v jtd turbo from the 136bhp version works with boost. I destroyed the original turbo and got a 20v turbo as a replacement for it. I modified the 10v actuator to work on the 20v and it works.. 😊 It keeps the vanes in the small position and moves them out as boost rises. There is always boost available. It might however be not the best solution since you're always restricting the airflow. Modern vacuumcontrolled turbo's don't do that.

Yes, yes and thrice yes. An impressive car, my friend. Power, speed, 4 seats and good MPG. I may or may not be slightly jealous*. * I am.

How on gods green earth did you conjure up all the different combinations of bits and pieces to come up with the running gear, engine, transmission, ect?....amazing.
volvo, BMW, Alfa, VW...what do your parts shelves look like!?!
very nice job

It helps to have mates who are into drifting. They tend to have a lot of bmw parts laying around. Another mate was a wrecker, easy to snoop around looking for useable parts.
Logical thinking and stealing good ideas from other projects is key to succes. This was a low budget build. The parts used for this car had to be up to the job and be cheap. Using brakes from heavier and more powerful car is usually cheaper then buying a big brake kit. Only thing i'm not totally sure about is the gearbox. It's the vauxhall/opel omega R25/28. With the 20v i get about 600nm instead of the 400nm it has now. That might scare the gearbox.. I hope it handles it well as i don't look forward to changing to a bmw gearbox. That would mean a lot of work..

That's...amazing. I had the 2.4 in a 156 and it shifted well. I can't imagine what it's like with 1070Kg.

I had not seen this the first time around, what a transformation!! I can't say I'm keen on the diesel powerplant but I can't deny it's an effective solution! I'm amazed by the variety of parts used, and the IRS installation. Are you allowed to modify suspension hard points legally then?

It was not a real problem.
We have to have the car checked/certified because of the engine swap. Costs 56 euro's.. After looking a minute at my rear axle they told me i did a good job and went on inspecting the rest of the car. After the inspection i had to pay 84 euro's. I asked why and they told me they also certified the rear axle... 🙄
Makes a fun car for my daily commute.

Well done then, all legal and useable! I can't imagine the 185-section tyres liking the torque too much though

The car actually has very good grip. My custom rear axle really digs in and grips when you put your foot down.
I run 195-50-15, a bit lower then original.
