So firstly an apology... I've neglected this poor old thread more than I've neglected the car
... What with life, work, a holiday and frantically trying to finish the house that Jack built I've barely had time to do owt.. but I've done a bit.. it's only a bit tho
First thing the great jet wash saga. Not sure if I've said but I went for a fancy nilfisk job. Bit overkill but overkill is good. I also treated myself to a fancy snow foam Lance for it. But with no car at home and the patience of a child I had to try it on something... Well the double pram has wheels sooooooo
Yeah. That works haha. Anyways back to the car, the wheels finally came back. They took longer than expected. And they have come out waaayyy better than expected! Also got the new tyres on and gave them a coating of this magic ceramic coating... It's meant to last 2 years. Luckily I didn't pay for it but that tiny tiny bottle is 40 quid!! 40 English pounds!!
And back on the car.
Yep. That will work!
The new tyres have transformed it. Rather than being a lethal death trap. It's now a slightly less lethal death trap haha. Don't get me wrong you can still light the tyres up in 1,2,3 on command. But if your progressive with the go pedal it hooks up and goes. And Jesus it goes!! Leaves black lines down the road on command and is generally bonkers!
After that I went on holiday for week to Filey with the kids, managed to get up to a barmy 14 degrees and raining... Following week was 22 and glorious sunshine! Typical!
Back home Dyno day was looming. And I'd got a problem... Kept loosing coolant and couldn't figure out where. Thought I had, then I hadn't,tried allsorts. long and short of it the rad cap wasn't sealing so rather than the overflow pipe not opening until it had reached the correct pressure to allow for expansion, it allowed water to flow all the time into the expansion bottle (and since it's just a normal bottle not a pressurised one it overflows out of there and the coolant gets lost)...
Figured the quickest/easiest solution to this was fit an expansion bottle with a proper rad cap style lid and that could act as the pressure tight seal (and allow for expansion)..
Ordered a nice ally one with a 1.1 bar cap. Only for it to get lost in the post, then delayed, then covid a lunar eclipse and whatever other excuses I got palmed off with... Finally on the day before the Dyno it turned up. With no time to fit it I had to limp the car home and planned on fitting it at night when kids were in bed.
Well as per usual kids didn't want to go to bed so was 9 o'clock before I got to fit it (12 hours before the Dyno).. first problem was the eBay measurements were wrong and it didn't fit! Not to worry il make space, even if it's just tie wrapped on to get me to the Dyno...
Filled it up with water and tentatively started the car to get it up temperature and check for leaks. The chill had barely gone off the coolant and it started leaking from the fancy new bottle! Were not talking a drip it was flowing out!!
Upon closer inspection it became clear that the welds had all been ground off and polished up lovely, but all the weld had also been ground away on one seem FFS!!!
Many many swear words were used. By this point it's 11 at night, I'm home alone so can't go anywhere to get anything, none of my mates have anything they can drop me off and the jobs fully fully f****d!!
Removed the new bottle fitted the old one to limp it to work and went to bed. Cancelled the Dyno the next morning and apologized profusely. Luckily John was understanding and told me to let him know when I was ready..
I'd fully fallen out with the car by this point, so parked it in the naughty corner at work and that's where it's stayed until now. Tbh I was never going to sell it, I'm not planning on it going anywhere... But if someone had tried to buy it that Friday. It would have gone
To take my mind off it I made a pizza oven. Which was the logical thing to do haha. And that's been more successful than the car up to date
Now I've calmed down a bit I'm back on the quest for a new expansion bottle. Need summat relatively small with a proper pressurised cap. Then once I've got it sorted car can go back for mapping.
Luckily since it's not my normal transport and I've the luxury of it living at work when I hit a bit of a snag like that it can sit there til I'm friends with it again haha.
Anyways. Sorry for the very long not very exciting post, and sorry for the slow updates. Must try harder!!
Cheers!
