I was thinking, y'see. Even other RX-7 owner/drivers seemed to think I'm some kind of crazy because mine is not only the newest car I own (at 34 years young) but currently the most reliable as well And daily driving it seems insanity, let alone expecting it to make it to Worcestershire from Sussex and back in a day Thing is, it purred along faultlessly. Didn't miss a beat. And that got me thinking, how many other like-minded idiots stoics made a similarly crazy roadtrip just to stand in a cowturd-strewn field and look at old bangers? I know that the BNMAC stand included some diehards from the Netherlands, who presumably win the prize for greatest distance travelled. Who made the longest trip in the UK though? Who spent the most keeping, say, a seven-litre yankee V8 fed on four-star for the day? My own tally comes to; 420 miles driven (about eight hours) £124.21 in unleaded Half a litre of two-stroke oil (about six quid) about a tenner on Red Bull and coffee Oh, and I bought a Yorkie (they're not for girls, see) that melted in the glovebox and is now in the fridge re-setting

I drove 180 miles round trip under a poly-carbonate bubble, sat on a curved seat - right shoulder vertical left shoulder laid back at 45 degrees!

Just to add, despite doing a track day last week and spending all day pretty much on the limiter my 174,000km plus MX5 quite happily drove up the M5 at ~70 and home again without a problem. Meanwhile the wife's Discovery (admittedly at 140K miles) was sitting partially broken on the drive, fixed no air-bleed valve.
What was great was seeing the variety of cars in the queue to get in, American low-riders, lotus 7 type kit car, a squadron of beach buggies, VW Golf's...

I didn't suffer too much, my Beetle managed it's first motorway trip (and first trip of more than 5 miles) in 11 years without issues. Though I am a little sunburnt today! Very pleased I don't suppose anyone took a photo of it that didn't have my thumb in the way?

I sacrificed a pair of trainers after comprehensively sliding on some rather fresh looking sheep excrement while being distracted by the lovely Toyota Century

I drove 75 miles there on the Friday in the rain (you remember the rain right) I have no roof... Or windscreen My engine was fired up and tested at 10pm on the Thursday, very roughly timed and tuned badly! I couldn't rev past 3k ish and she spent the journey spraying boiling fluids out the rad. I then drove the 75 miles home, no rain this time. But around 10 miles into the journey the exhaust snapped at the manifold and launched the rear of the car into the air, then my mate drove over it. So now I had to do 60 odd miles with a deafening noise, even less power and more boiling spitty water Loved every second of it!

I drove about 550 miles round trip. Spent some money on some tat at the auction, spent more money on food because I'm a fatso. Spent some money on a hoody for the wife to keep her sweet. The biggest thing I regret is the 7am start at work this morning.

I drove about 15 miles there and 15 back! Phew, need a coffee after each trip!
I must say a great event. I honestly didn’t think it would be so big, couldn’t believe how many vehicles were there, the wife was shocked too as she’d never hear of Retro Rides until I told (asked) her to go.

I know that the BNMAC stand included some diehards from the Netherlands, who presumably win the prize for greatest distance travelled. Who made the longest trip in the UK though? I wouldn't say we had to suffer as our gathering weekend started at Thursday morning and we're now on the ferry back to the mainland. All in all the total distance will be around the 850-900 miles mark. I'm sure some Scottish visitors did similar mileage in less days with less hotel visits

I missed an auction? Darn I could have spent some money.. I arrived a late on Sunday due to other annoyances, but not too much bother! 190 mile round trip at a cost of about £15 on the two wheeled Honda, only inconvenience was the wind! Oh and a slightly numb gentelmans region when i fogot to move for an hour or so 😶 next year wil arrive on time and actually meet a few people! Still awesome though
