I have tested all of my wiring systems with led lighting before fitting them to the car and all work great indicators with the tell tales, instruments back lights, sides stop tails everything so I'm going with it I can always change and add things if the led's start giving trouble but we can see how it goes with car this old they are all different even if they were built with in a few months and what may work on one won't on another.
I do like the early dash and column a lot of style to it.

Pete,
I'll be interested to see what the led headlights are like, have you used a complete replacement unit or conversion of a h4 lamp?
On fuses on cars with no fuses I have fitted a 100 amp maxi in the main feed, far from perfect and there may well be some damage before it blows but gives a degree of protection.

I might have to buy a set of them and join the lighting arms race! the one thing the really stands out as a problem with the classics is the lighting, I have a new fiesta with LED lighting and the classics are terrible by comparison, in the big picture ÂŁ60 isn't too much either, I'd only previously seen the complete headlamps at approaching ÂŁ500 a pair.

Over the last weekend I have started to make a new under dash parcel shelf. The first thing after stripping the original shelf was to get the cross bar powder coated. The rubber shape fits over the front of the bar and form a soft shaped shape for the vinyl to go over, this form was glued to the cross bar.
The new base cut from some 4mm ply rather than 4mm hardboard, original base shown below.
After some careful measuring, cutting and masking of the vinyl and cross bar had the contact adhesive applied.
After two coats of adhesive on the vinyl and one on the cross bar and time for the glue to go tacky I then wrapped the cross bar applying an even pressure along the bar edge and then pulling it tight without stretching the vinyl out of shape around the rubber shape, it gets stuck down.
The cross bar gets fixed under the base and the joint is trapped.
The next part to do is to cover the base and then to fix it all together.
More to follow.

I'd not thought of doing it like that Pete, as I'm fitting a radio to the Cortina I was considering putting speaker pods on the parcel shelf but was uneasy with the idea of drilling it etc - this is a much better solution as I can keep the original as is

Thanks Jim I'm fitting a Bluetooth MP3 player unit and mounting it and an amp out of the way the Motorola that's in the cat wont be used ( I don't even know if it works) and sorting something I'm designing to go in the boot for the speakers which will be as comparable to a modern system at a fraction of the price.

I always love DIY interior craftwork... Brings back great memories of me making my own panels and headliner etc. Lovely phase of the project. Lovely car. This very example has been responsible for the model moving up in my liking. I never was a huge fan but this clean car is amazing.

That's come out rather well. You should be pretty chuffed with your handywork I reckon.

I did start do something on the interior this morning but due to a couple of things that are out of my control with the fitment I could not complete this (to be sorted at a later date). So I fitted the a mod to the front suspension to stiffen it up a bit.
These are my design to fit the 19mm Dia ARB and were machined for me by Bad Obsession Motorsport those of project Binky fame around both ARB's where the clamps are I have fitted some cut and split inner tube rubber strips the allen bolts and nuts are M8 stainless steel, BOM as well as doing the machining also had the clamps clear pasivated as part of the cost and they did a great job.
The second ARB has had the threaded ends cut off and sharp edges removed before painting.

That should stiffen it up well, did it roll a lot with the original? Careful with ally & Stainless, they don't get on well together.

Yes it used to role a lot in corners with new dampers, bushes and now this it should reduce the role a great deal.
The bolts are all greased up so should be ok.

Looking very nice, the other thing which helps with that type of suspension is to add a clamp inboard of the bush each side, makes it more stable particularly under braking as the geometry doesn't change when the roll bar moves from side to side, they were standard on TR7 but I think the bar is a bigger diameter, I'll Measure one if you are interested.
