I feel like today is a good day to start this thread as according to facebook, I have a habit of buying cars around the 17th of Jan Anywho, back story. For the past couple of months or so, I've been driving a Toyota Aygo as my daily driver.. I sold my Corolla T Sport as I was getting too tempted to get carried away with mods for track days and I decided to go for the cheapest to run car I could find to save maximum money to get the E34 sorted. £20 road tax and 52mpg certainly mean the Aygo is cheap to run, but its not really my sort of car. Coupled with the fact I'm commuting a bit far for what is a city car and its not a particularly pleasant experience. So, I decided to look for something V8 and LPG. I've wanted a V8 for a while, last time I tried to get one I ended up with a V12 BMW 750i... Made enquiries on some cars, a Soarer, a 735i, an XJ8 but none of them really ticked the boxes. Then I'm perusing the sale section on here (as you do) and theres a Legend Coupe.. a car I've always quite liked, but not V8 or LPG Decided to sack off the LPG idea and go for it, I recently passed my direct access bike test so should be able to split the commuting a bit more this year anyway. Got a mate to give me a lift up to Yorkshire yesterday after work and came back with this (I forgot a first fill shot, so make do with Sainsburys and Tesco car park shots instead) Was about half past midnight by the time we got back but I'm very happy. Its got quite a bit of the feel of the RX7 in terms of the era and style of car, but its very chilled to drive with the auto box. I've not really got into lots of detailed pics or anything yet, I'll save that for the weekend when I crack on with cleaning it, so far all I've done is change the wipers haha It does have some faults, mostly little electrical things which I'll try and troubleshoot, and a little bit of rust on the back arches. I'm gathering bits to do a service, and although the cam belt is only about 8000 miles old, its old in terms of years so I'll get it done for peace of mind. Front tyres are low on tread, but I have quite a few 5x114.3 wheels kicking about the place at the moment, so may experiment this weekend Plans wise, I'm not getting carried away, main focus is still the E34, but I'll keep this clean and tidy and do little bits as I go Updates over the weekend

Hello fellow Legend driver!
Have to admit I was tempted when I saw this in the F/S section myself...I've been really impressed with mine (we even share some electrical gremlins like the boot release button packing up...check the glove box as these is a little override switch that deactivates it. Apparently it was there so that greedy valet parkers couldn't pop the boot at will...)
They're cool and have a few neatquirks but I'll let you find out the rest...

Hello!
I've only driven it a couple days but I'm already really enjoying it
To be honest, it took me quite a while to find the boot switch in the first place haha, there are certainly some quirks about them as you say. I'll have to check in the glovebox
One thing I've noticed from doing a little googling of a couple of the issues mine has, is that information about them is a bit thin on the ground.. I guess because they're quite a rare car, so working out some of the electrical niggles might be a bit of a challenge!

Well thank you for that tip, found the valet switch in the glovebox, flipped it and now I have a working boot release button if the rest of the fixes are that easy then I'll be very happy

Apologies if I'm teaching you to suck eggs but they're essentially a rebranded Acura - most of my reading/research has been through googling Acura forums - so searching for the Acura Legend KA8 will probably help. Doug DeMuro is a fan...

Paul not at all! I did come across an Acura Legend forum the other day so will get reading, I find it interesting that the Acura's have a totally different handbrake compared to the RHD cars (I'm sad like that ) What's your Legend like? Saloon or Coupe? One of the issues that had been apparent on the drive back from collecting it, was that it pulled to the left, so today I went and got the tracking looked at Fronts are now back in spec, the rear was a bit out but we looked at the state of some of the adjustment bolts on the rear suspension and decided to pick our battles it certainly seems to drive a bit better now and pulls less! I didn't get a huge amount done on the car today because of the weather, but I made a start on the big clean. The car had been parked up near trees I think for a bit of time, so there was some build up in the door/boot/bonnet jambs which I wanted to deal with first. The boot looked like this A little scrubbing later.. A little thing but its a start, I did similar work on the door jambs but couldn't be bothered to take photos as too cold/wet/dirty Started on taking a look under the bonnet The mighty C32A engine in all its splendour, I didn't get far with cleaning under here as the weather started getting rainy. I'll get the hoover out for all the leaves and stuff around the scuttle (its amazing how far into crevices pine needles can get with just wind and gravity driving them..) I do like how Honda print the basic service intervals for the air and oil filters on the air box, not sure I've seen that in one of my cars before Speaking of service, I'm gathering parts to give it one, got Denso spark plugs, some Dexron II for the gearbox (need to find the drain/fill procedure), 10w40 for the engine and air and oil filters on their way. I've also been pricing up brakes parts as there is a bit of brake judder under moderate to hard braking. Rear discs and pads, and Front pads seem easy enough to find, Front discs have been a little more tricky (and expensive!). Went into the local Honda dealer today on the offchance they could give me a price, only to be told they'd discontinued the front discs! They did give me a part number though, which when I searched on ebay, showed a guy in Germany was selling a NOS pair of genuine Honda discs, so they're on their way to me I need to book it in for the timing belt to be done (first car I've owned with a belt and I don't fancy doing it myself) Aside from that, I've got a small list of electrical stuff to investigate/fix - ABS light comes on
- Heater fan only works on max speed
- Air con not working/effective
- Aerial clicks after going up or down and doesn't fully retract
- Electric window switches, drivers front window doesn't open on its switch, only opens on drivers rear window switch, drivers rear window doesn't open at all..
- Heated rear screen doesn't work
- Drivers door speaker is farting so think it will need replacement
Tomorrow I'll do the clean proper, and hopefully take some more photos as I've been a bit pic-light so far!

Saloon or Coupe? The KA9 was only ever made in saloon variant - one model, one engine...the C35A Regarding the ABS fault code, this is how I diagnosed mine... ...cross referenced with here... www.acuralegendwiki.org/index.php/G2:_FAQ:_Error_Codes_And_Definitions#ABS_CodesIt also helped me diagnose a faulty lambda - it's so simple, but effective and entirely accurate.

Do Honda autos use generic oil in the boxes ? I know that the manuals use specific Honda stuff which they are fussy about. I’ve used fox Honda on line for oem bits for the daily and prices are less horrific than the local dealer. Nice smoker, kept on top of this era of Honda are pretty bomb proof. James

James I've just done a flush on mine - I used Triple QX ATF U as apparently it's Honda Z1 compliant...that's the thing to look out for. Actively avoid the Dexron stuff as it's not good for Honda boxes I'm told.

Legend coupes look gloriously decadent, with the 2ndgen adding visual mass for more smugness. Power steering fluid fairly specific as std. may attack seals. The older pre-97 (?) Honda ALB can also offer problems with their pressure reservoirs or the seals connecting them... & are not nicely located for maintenance alongside the engine on these.

Nice Legend Paul ! Annoyingly I bought some Dexron II yesterday but then read a forum post saying to only use Honda stuff, and you seem to be backing up that train of thought as well! So I shall return that and get some of the Honda ATF 79cord what is the ALB? the engine bay on this is entirely dry and leak free which has been a pleasant thing to see! Well I made some progress on cleaning it today, theres a lot of car to clean! I did some before/after shots of the interior but they're not exactly night and day so here are just the 'after' shots Its a nice place to be, and the leather has come up very nicely indeed. Random thing I noticed the other day, theres a mini sun visor for the gap above the mirror I think some VWs have this as well, one of those amusing little touches After cleaning the interior, I made a start on the outside with a rinse, snowfoam and two bucket wash And thats about where I got up to as I ran out of time for today, it comes up nicely, but will definitely need claying as theres quite a lot of ingrained dirt, especially on the roof. An amazing amount of dirt and pine needles came out from the window seals as well! So claying, polishing and waxing, will be a job for in the week I think, otherwise I'll just be waiting for my service items to arrive!

For a long time Honda favoured Anti Lock Brakes to the Antilock Braking System acronym since they applied it to the Prelude in 1982. Legend leather seats really distinguish themselves from any other Honda with proper amounts of leather rather than a few token strips of over-stretched leather surrounded by vinyl, definitely need to be looked after though.

Ahh Anti Lock Brakes, I probably should have thought of that haha, on this one though the light definitely says ABS, I'll try the method of reading the code, hopefully its doesn't need the pump replacing or anything like that..

Cheers guys, I think its certainly got potential I did work out the mpg on the last tank, think it was about 24.. but I'm not going to dwell on it mpg is adequate, lets leave it at that haha The engine bay certainly is a bit busy, I got the vacuum in there and got rid of some of the curse word, but I think it really wants the scuttle tray panel thing taking off to give it a proper clean out. I also picked up the oil and air filters today so I'll crack on with an engine service and give the whole bay a bit of a clean. I'm no detailer mind! After doing some net research on the heater issue, I'm pretty sure its going to be down to the fan speed resistor (seems to be various names for it) which are, you guessed it, discontinued (although one would have been £300 from Honda so that was never a go-er!) There seems to be a bit of a trend appearing for bits being hard to find, definitely reminiscent of RX7 FC ownership! I've messaged a guy breaking a Legend on ebay, hopefully I can get the resistor off that. I do need to try the code reader trick, as I'm sure whatever part of the ABS system I need, will also be discontinued, so I may need a few things from any breakers I can find! Also got my local garage checking they'll be able to do the cambelt ahead of booking it in so I can then rest easy Its challenging, but driving an Aygo was too easy
