A couple of small bits done over the weekend before the storm hit on Sunday. Nothing major but hopefully bigger stuff to come over the next couple of weeks. First up, I fitted my Wink NASCAR-style mirror with some rollcage brackets. Eliminates 99% of blind spots I think it looks kinda cool too. Had to adjust it so I wasn't just looking at my stupid face all the time. I also set about hacking up my centre console so that I could actually shift gears. Sadly my poxy garage doesn't have power, so it was a hacksaw affair. Need to get a hold of a battery grinder really. The plastic facia was no bother, but the cage behind will be another matter. Definitely needs a tidy as it looks pretty ghetto at the moment. Any ideas on how I could make it all look nice?

could you bend the gear stick back to clear the original console?

...or you could get one of those screw on VW T4 gear stick cranked/extenders off eBay and then you could fit a complete console ... oh ...

could you bend the gear stick back to clear the original console? It was a consideration, but then the MX5 console was just kinda floating there as it doesn't reach the tunnel. I realise that cutting the bottom of means now it really doesn't reach the tunnel but I think it'll look more suited if I were to box it all in some how? I'm not totally sure. ...or you could get one of those screw on VW T4 gear stick cranked/extenders off eBay and then you could fit a complete console ... oh ... Yeah, it was an idea but then as above, the console looked really weird. You need to enter this in the Brands hatch American speedfest! they have pick up truck classes! Well that just looks incredible! The truck was supposed to be semi-ready by the end of the month but not sure it’s gonna make it. June might be doable though!

There will always be next year, i know they don't always have the same race set up every year except the nascar challenge, the 1st time i went, they had 'Bernies v8 challenge' which was a vast array of vehicles from vauxhalls, mgb's, mk1 Escorts etc etc all with a v8 stuffed into them! Even if you get to put yours into the show area, it's something, or at least go there, and you may even be influenced?

Did a thing, decided I hated it, changed it back to normal... Finished the side stripes with them... Also fitted this, it's supposedly good for 150dbs! Got a bit of a hectic week coming up as Spring Action at Castle Combe is next Saturday and am hoping to to be on my mate's trade stand. The truck is messing about somewhat, the throttle is a bit weird, it's revving strangely and nearly stalling. Could well be the TPS so hoping to get a replacement during the week and also hoping that fixes it! Got the exhaust being made this week along with the bed being patched up and finally the brakes being sorted along with MOT! Praying we make it to Combe, wish me luck!

Updating pictures from a mobile is hideous on this site so I’ll do a couple tomorrow, nothing too exciting mind.

I cleaned up and painted the interior and binned off the passenger seat which wasn't bolted in anyways. I much prefer it with minimal interior. I also ripped out the odd bits of carpet that remained. Looks much more purposeful now. Still need to sort out the centre console though. Chop chop!

I had a pretty full on day yesterday. The truck has been running pretty poorly recently and I couldn't seem to fix it. We sorta narrowed it down to being electrical.
I had a chap hop on the laptop remotely (Tom from York, you're a genuine legend) and check out what the engine and ECU was doing. I use a Megasquirt ECU which is sorta old tech but still well up to the job, along with it comes Tunerstudio which is a great bit of kit if you know how to use it... I don't.
Tom checked over everything and it all looked pretty good, changed up a couple of settings here and there but still not much change. Then he checked out the battery, it was showing 11.10 volts and was draining. The battery is new so I'd be surprised if it's that but I guess it could be. Turns out it's not getting charged. I hooked up The Ford Puma of Reliability to the truck with some jump leads and it was much, MUCH happier. This sorta lead us to believe that the alternator is goosed. Currently on a manic hunt for a Mk1 1.8 alternator which I can get my hands on before Wednesday!
