I finished up the clutch line and then set about removing the remaining copper lines off the car. For some reason the brake light pressure switch banjo bolt wouldn't thread in to the master cylinder. I had to clean the threads up with a tap and then we were in business. I straightened the reservoir lines and painted these up and they look 10x better than they used to. I got all the braided lines made and T's mounted. I added cable tie points along the tunnel and where ever they were needed. All in all I think it looks neat enough. The brake and clutch lines are now finished but not bled yet. I'll do this when I have a helper in the coming days if I can't gravity bleed them tomorrow. I think I'll tackle wiring tomorrow seeing as the car has none whatsoever.

None whatsoever is a bit of a lie… obviously it has an engine loom but I mean in terms of the car there isn’t anything. I’ll start with stuff like cooling fans, fuel and diff pumps etc. A way of starting and stopping the car from the drivers seat without twisting two wires together and tapping another one on some power would be good too! Haha

Haha A man after my own heart I converted my Monza to 24V and well the wiring was what was needed to make it run - the interior was "iffy" on a run to a rolling road day I blew about 4 fuses cos the dash was cable tied to the roll cage and it shorted out!!!! Duct tape makes a good insulator

Coming along nicely!
The assembly procedure for that propshaft must be a nightmare, but I'm sure you'll sort something out.
Oh and going back to your brackets, for the sake of a bit of sheet metal and 20 mins of your time, absolutely close them out while you can! If it can bend, it will.

Lots of load on engine brackets.

Ok, if I get time I'll add some side strength to the engine mounts.... Today I spent a long time 4-5hrs on trying to bleed the brakes and clutch. First was an easy one... sorting blocked bleed nipples on the clutch and front brakes. I had a few weeping joints so tightened them all up. Issue is that I don't have any swivels so this essentially this leads to me rebuilding the brake system to take out the twists in the line between the T's then re fitting the lines out to the calipers. After all of this I still had a spongy brake. There were still weeps..... on all of the ports on the recycled T's. The brand new one I bought for the rear was fine. My conclusion is that these old T's have shaped and hardened to the old copper fittings. The copper flared end used to create the seal and all was good. Now that I have braided lines the steel on old brass isn't cutting the custard. I've ordered some new T's to give this a go tomorrow. As for the clutch I tried for a long time and a few different ways of bleeding the system passing lots of fluid through. I still couldn't get a the clutch to do anything. First thought was that the piston in the master cylinder was stuck so took this apart and it was dirty but ok. Still nothing so turned my attention to the slave. I had to knock this up with a tap from a hammer... it got stuck up in the cylinder! However with a press of the pedal it moved and started working well. About 4pm I finaly got onto looking at some wiring. My gauges arrived... pretty unlikely any of these will function for the gathering. Engine oil pressure Engine oil temp Front radiator temp (engine temp is on the R1 clocks) Diff oil temp Volts I bought a thread adaptor knowing the sensor didn't fit in the diff manifold... well this isn't going work. Doh. I can see where this is going but making my own is just time consuming. I came in tonight at 11:30pm having laid all the wires for everything at the rear. I'm already onto my second 100m wire spool.

Late one... 2am. Here are some pictures... Some wiring happened. It still starts so at least I haven't made anything worse! My parents came over and brought my E30 with them as well as collecting a M52 engine and kit of parts on the way... a new thread for another day. We have some pretty lights.. At about 11:30pm... dad said "can I wrap the exhaust." I said "crack on the wraps over there ) 2hrs later.... Mean while I did more wiring things .... we're getting there.

There's a thread goin for these but I lack the time to update it.... check it out, 1961 Lamborghini 2241r . Maybe one day I'll finish writing my story... and maybe one day I'll find the time to restore them! Just make sure the rocket launcher & ejector seat are wired in, the rest don't matter Hahah these stickers were fitted by the previous owner. I left them on as it makes me smile. However I'm not sure I'll be needing switches for the oil slick and smoke screen.... I'm sure these will happen half way up the hill at the weekend on their own accord!

Ok, if I get time I'll add some side strength to the engine mounts.... Dude make time for it, seriously.. they're right there! If they flex, which they will, your engine is more or less free to rotate about the vertical axis. That's going to cause havoc with your driveshafts and unless they flex enough to bend permanently you'll be scratching your head trying to work out what the problem is. All you need to do is weld in a little square of sheet and that's one less potential headache when you come to drive it.

Did you get a job lot on white wire???
I know some alarms use all black wire to make it harder to cut it out of the system but clearly your labelling system works!!!!
Starts and runs - has pretty dash - has ability to stop
Add seats drag to RRG and you are done surely?

Weird times... bed at 2:30am and awake by 6:15am... dreaming about wires and what's next on the to do list. Anyway long days are proving productive so far. We have weekend camping tickets so what like 36hrs until gates open? One of dads jobs today was to box in the engine bay. The original transmission hump was turned upside down and relocated off centre to suit the diff. ice cream! A job that was added to the list was front top shock mounts. There weren't really any which I had forgotten about. Knocked up some brackets and all is good now. These were ground back and made a bit nicer. Dude make time for it, seriously.. they're right there! Time was made for the outside mounts at least... simple squares looked so ugly so went with a web style... there's just a straight 30mm plate on the bottom side however otherwise you'll never be able to drop the engine frame out of the car. The steering colum was finished and fitted. Old wheel on loosely while we muck about. The engine boxing went well. Everything is tacked in and an aluminium cover was made (protective film ready to come off soon). This is bolted so we can access everything easily should we need to. Did you get a job lot on white wire??? I know some alarms use all black wire to make it harder to cut it out of the system but clearly your labelling system works!!!! Starts and runs - has pretty dash - has ability to stop Add seats drag to RRG and you are done surely? Yes bought 400m of white wire cheap... wire can get very expensive quite quickly so this was an easy choice for me. I've started my 3rd roll so over 200m of wire in the car so far. Pretty much all Motorsport harnesses are all white wire. Not that I can compare my loom to those. Hopefully it all works. Hopefully I'll finish it off tomorrow and test it all out. Oh and I had to make a middle control panel to add all my switches on to.... dash it now looking a bit like this..

That's going to be fun to troubleshoot in the future! Although I have seen that you can get label printers that can print onto heatshrink, which is ideal for labelling wires. Could be a job in the future to get a bunch of different colours of heatshrink and go through the loom labelling the wires.
If you fancied rewiring it with coloured stuff at some point in the future, or if anyone else wants to, I've found the best way to get lots of different coloured wires is to head down to your local scrapyard and start pulling looms out of cars there. I've found the rear looms of vans to be particularly useful as you get long lengths of the same coloured wire, but it tends to work out cheaper than buying lots of different colours of new wire (and you get two-coloured wires a lot easier).

Another long day and a bunch more to do tomorrow. The car currently over heats which hopefully can be solved with a proper bleed. I’ll check my water pump out to make sure that’s going the right way etc… Need to bolt the seats in properly and fit the rear windows. I then really want to sort my compomotive wheels out. Fingers crossed all this won’t take too long. The 8 series and imp are now in Worcestershire so not far to travel tomorrow….see you all at the show.

Could be a job in the future to get a bunch of different colours of heatshrink and go through the loom labelling the wires. It's actually not that bad! You just keep your plug pin-outs / wiring diagram handy and diagnostics is easy peasy. Accurately tracing a wire by eye through the full length of a harness is next to impossible anyway unless you make every single wire a different colour, and that costs a fortune. If you're the type of person who heatshrinks the entire harness (i.e. motorsport af) then wire colour is irrelevant too. So glad to see you boxed in those brackets! I am a happy pedant lol Well deserved ice cream imo
